I'm sailing to Norway from Newcastle a week on Saturday. We have 5 hours in Tyneside, can anyone recommend what we can see in Newcastle?

There's always the Metro Centre at Gateshead if you like shopping. Not been for many many years, so can't think what else is there.

Don't waste your time going to Gateshead to see the angel of the north. It's a ugly rusty monstrosity. You could go to the metrocentre but a bit out of the way if you are getting on the ferry in North Shields. Go to Tynemouth and visit the priory.There's some nice shops there too in Tynemouth village. Don't be fooled into going to the Royal Quays shopping outlet, it's rubbish, never anyone in the shops just assistants bored doing their nails. Then again that might appeal to you bounty.

What I have in mind isn't chocolate related, though: an Elkhound puppy (adorable!). I've always wanted one... Am I looking a gift dog in the mouth here??? Has anyone here ever had a Norwegian Elky, by the way?
