What Have I Missed?
« on: July 09, 2013, 09:51:38 pm »
Well, THAT was fun! Just spent the last week in hospital with blood poisoning. I have no idea how it happened but my hand flared up with en eeeevil infection which promptly spread up the arm and before you knew it I was suddenly ‘highly toxic’ (direct quote from doctor) and if I’d left the trip to A&E a little longer I may not even be here to write this. So I have laid in a ward in Dorchester Hospital with all sorts of things being pumped into my veins, with the possibilities of amputation and death hanging over me. Funny the revelations and thoughts you have when you’re in that kinda situation. Scary stuff indeed! Happy to say the antibiotics kicked in fast and I was allowed home today. If there’s one thing I learned from this experience is that nurses must be the single most unappreciated people in this world. They are constantly getting slagged off in the press etc. and quite frequently you bump into people who have nothing good to say about them, but IMHO they are doing one HELLAVA job there, and they have my utmost respect for what they do… and how they put up with my constant whining/questions for the week is beyond me! They made this very scared guys week an incredible amount easier than I thought possible. And all you haters out there? You now have ME to go through! ;-) Anyways, it’s been a week… I heard about Andy Murray but did anything else of interest happen?

Hello wjp666. It's good to meet you. Wow what a week you've had, it sounds just awful.  I am really glad you're recovered enough for them to let you go home. I hope you get back to whatever you consider normal for you, ASAP.  :D
I come from a nursing family and agree that most nurses are under-appreciated. They're mostly incredibly over-worked people, just trying to get all their jobs done as quickly as possible and not forget that at the end of the day the people they care for are often worried, confused, scared and in pain.

Now.. On to things you have you missed, here are some things I have noticed.

Firstly as you say lovely Mr Murray won Wimbledon, that was pretty awesome.
Then there's the thing about it being a little bit warm and sunny recently, it's a shame to have missed that.
The last episode of this series of Criminal Minds was on on Monday, that was good too, I'm sorry you missed that.
The first 3D printer is now on sale in Maplins. It comes in kit form though, and the manufacturers say it will take about 10 hours to put it together, so I think you'd have to really want one.  :)

Oh and I joined the forum. That was a pretty important part of my week. lol

i do want to get myself a 3d printer... how awesome would that be, seriously? Though the trouble I currently have with my wireless Epson is indication that I might nit be very good with one.

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. And I kind of got to enjoy the sun through the window of my room. (Yes, I was lucky enough to have blagged my own room for the whole week.)

Still feeling rough now, but glad to be home. Nothing a bit of r'n'r and a shedload of pills can't cure. It's funny because I went days without food and all I could stomach when I did eventually start to perk up were good old Mars bars!

And I feel like the worst athiest ever right now. All it takes is a bit of illness and I'm ready to throw myself at God's feet and beg forgiveness, lol. Oh well. whatever it takes, I guess.

Ouch, sounds pretty bad. Glad you're much better now.
I have no idea what's gone on in the last week (apart from the tennis) - having a baby is highly distracting! (I did manage to buy lindt's new bars in sainsburys though so with any luck i'll be able to try them as soon as the temperature drops below that of the surface of the sun).

Jolly good... glad to see I picked an uneventful week to almost die. Nope - no idea how it happened. Just fell asleep one night with a red finger and woke up with a boxing glove for a hand the next day! Scary stuff. Certainly reminded me how mortal I really am, despite wehat I like to think. Thanks for all the well wishes. I wish my hospital had a more reliable wi-fi connection and I could've checked in from time to time. Nice to see the forum is more lively upon my return.

As as much good as I have to say about nurses, the 'entertainment' was something else. A tenner for 24 hours of TV?! Insanity! It wasn't even Sky!

You have to pay for TV in hospital? I didn't know that. And so much too. Never mind Sky it should be Virgin on demand for such a huge amount of money.

Edited to put.... Virgin on demand.. Hmm, that didn't come out quite right I don't think. lol

I had a 'nurse on demand' call button, but to be honest they all looked as if they'd been round the block a few times.
