CDM Strawberries and Creme
« on: June 03, 2013, 02:52:01 pm »
One for Spicy I think! I'm 90% certain this is based on a Milka product, so if you've already had Milka Strawberries and Yoghurt (guessing at the name) this won't be anything new; however, I very much enjoyed it, and the chunkier nature of CDM means you get more filling, which is a plus for me.

Apparently it's only a summer special edition, so get it while you can. I paid a ridiculous amount in Budgens because they overcharge for everything (Carte D'or £5.99 a tub?!) but I'd imagine you can find it cheaper elsewhere.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

Is this all Kraft are going to do now? Release all their Milka crap under the Cadbury banner?

Thanks Smurfy! I'll look out for that.

I still haven't recovered from the horror of finding out Milka do a bar with mini Tuc Crackers embedded in it. YUK!! The filthy bastards.

OK, I've had quite a tough week at work so I rewarded myself one of these on the way home tonight. It cost £1.79 - but that was from a small, independent shop. I've had one, tiny square and it's ok-ish. The strawberry bit is solid and it's a bit boring to start with, but the flavour then kind of floods your mouth.  I would like the strawberry bit to be gloopy - like the strawberry creams in Roses and Quality Street (ha, what an oxymoron!!) but I suppose I am being far too fussy!

Ok, I've just had another square and has now decided that the flavour that floods your mouth after a little while is actually ......... salt!!
Seriously, this bar will not grow on you. Quite the opposite in fact. :(

Hey everyone. I can't find an intro thread, might have missed it though. Sorry if I have.

Good to be here.   :D

OK back to topic..... I have looked at this bar of chocolate a few times, but I haven't really plucked up the courage to buy one yet. I have this feeling that the strawberry centre might taste synthetic, and I am not really great with synthetic flavours.
I was hoping to find some really good reviews of it here because I absolutely love strawberry cream chocolates and want it to be great.
I am a huge fan of the Lindt strawberry bars. They're yummy. So if I had the money to spend I think I would probably buy Lindt instead of Cadbury.

If you like strawberry cream chocolates rainbow, I don't think you'll think much of this bar. The strawberry bit does taste very synthetic. I like those soft, gloopy strawberry fillings - but only in small amounts.

Many years ago, Cadbury used to sell a whole range of small, fruit-filled bars including strawberry, tangerine and pineapple.  I was not around to enjoy these wonderful-sounding creations but of course, if you just imagine eating one, there are no calories involved!

Oldspice.. Ahh rats! That's just what I was afraid of.
I think I remember those bars, but it was a long time ago.
The two very best parts about imaginary chocolate are that you can create your own flavours. (melon is my all time favourite) and of course the complete lack of calories. lol
Oh well, at least in the real world there is still Lindt. Thank goodness.  ;D

Shrey, that sounds delicious and just in time for Wimbledon finals weekend. Yum.  :)

Wow Rainbow, if you can remember those bars, you're even more 'mature' than I am! I think they were around in the 1950s and very early 60s. I've seen them in pictures but I don't remember eating one. Needlers (an old chocolate company from way back) even had a greengage filled bar and a grapefruit filled bar! Not sure I've ever seen one with a melon filling but sounds lovely.

I miss those lovely fillings in the old Terry's All Gold boxes and the Black magic selection - before the companies started mucking about with them. Honey and Raspberry, Ginger Cream, Liquid Cherry Cream, Toffee & Mallow ..... yum!

Oh the 1950's and 60's. Really?
No I'm not as mature as all that.  ;D
I found this, I think this is what I was thinking about.

It's a link to a relevant picture I promise, but if anyone wants to remove it I won't be offended.  :)

OH I used to love Black Magic chocolates, they were always the ones my fella bought for me whenever he had done something he needed to apologise for. He just knew they were the only ones that would get him off the hook. lol
I was addicted to the toffee and mallow centres.
So when I was bought a box a few months ago I was really excited, and they were absolutely awful. :(
Half of the flavours I remembered were missing, the chocolate wasn't as dark as I remember it, and there was something wrong with the taste of them. Of course this might be my memory playing tricks on me, but I don't think so.

Was the chocolate I remember 20 years ago really so much better than the stuff we have now? My memory tells me that it was.

It's true, they have messed about with the chocolates and fillings. Well, of course, the company that made Black Magic was taken over by Nestle and it was all down hill from then on!

That Cadbury Snack bar is available in Australia and South Africa but not widely available here. The little bars I am referring to were from way back.

If you look at this picture, in the top left-hand corner, you can see a Cadbury Strawberry bar, but they did them in other flavours too. Lots of memories here!

Aww, now look what you went and did. Nostalgia sweeps over me and I am thinking about what it was like to be small and a chocoholic. lol

Fry's chocolate was amazing then, and SPANGLES... Oh how I wish they were still available.

Do you remember the small bars of Cadbury's and Nestle chocolate you could buy from machines in every railway station?

I have been through this entire picture with my partner, discussing the tastes we loved and the ones we didn't, and our daughter, she's 9, is amazed that she recognises most of the chocolate I grew up with because it's still around, in one form or another. The sad thing is of course that although the names are the same the chocolate has changed almost as much as the wrappers.

Fry's chocolate, amazingly enough (and I am a snob), is actually not bad. I had a Chocolate Cream t'other week and it actually tasted close to the original, so I'm glad Kraft haven't filled it with Oreos or Granite or something else.

You're a snob, about chocolate? How do you define snob as you have quoted please?
Thanks. :)
