Box of Choco's
« on: October 16, 2012, 08:41:06 pm »
Its that time of year again when the box of chocolates start appearing.  Rose and QS seem alright but the best one I have seen so far is M&S Big Selection at £5 which has a decent sections.  I try and get list of all favours soon,

What does everyone else think?

i'm thinking they'd better have taken the eclairs out of the Heroes this year.

Here is the sections for M&S Big box:  Only £5:

* Orange Fondant
* Double Devon Toffee
* Hazelnut In Caramel
* Chocolate Truffle
* Coffee Creme
* Caramel Fudge
* Chocolate Toffee
* Biscuit In Carmel

I do believe there should have following also in the mix which would make it even better:

I still have a carton of M and S Big Box from about two? Christmases ago, and the selection is actually even better and more diverse. Its somewhere upstairs at the moment, but off the top of my head I'm sure there was at least also a praline thing and a crispy chocolate thing.

More like the Roses selections from circa 1998 - 2002 ish? When they had the Nutty Truffle Log, Praline Chunk, Orange Crisp, Chocolate Crisp and the like. All gone now of course. Only hideous caramel and fudge based things. Though I suppose, like the banishment of Galaxy Truffle from celebrations, it all comes down to consolidation of product ranges and cost reduction (oh how I mourn the sublime truffle acorns of the mid 90s!).

I love caramel and toffee chocs, but even so this doesn't seem like the most balanced selection. When Heroes included Dream and Picnic there was at least a bit more variety.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

Well, the eclairs and Bournville can sod off but I'll keep the Fudge!  Agree about the Picnic. It should be returned. I think the Creme Egg Twisted is a nice touch, but why can't we have mini Flakes and Crunchies?

Oh how I miss the Quality Street of my childhood! Gooseberry Creams! Plenty of Coffee/Orange/Strawberry Creams, a few Fudgey type things and Toffee Penny (which I didn't like much.

I loved the old Black Magic and Dairy Box selections as well but it's a good job they're all rancid rubbish these days else I'd be the size of a mammoth!

Have to say that I find celebrations the least bad of the common variety packs now. Though good find from 623, I will definitely make a trip to M&S for that selection.
I wonder if Waitrose does anything similar?
(it's a sad day when we have to rely on the 'posh' supermarkets to produce what we want rather than the chocolate makers)

Isn't it a sad state of affairs when we have to purchase 'the least bad' of a terrible bunch? I'm off to M&S too, i guess.

Its a Good bargain at £5 and its 800g aswell.  ( I should point out for fairness that Alda has "Dairyfine" Box but its section is POOR"

What is the one sweet you would love to see back in these type of secltions?
