Double Decker Dilemma
« on: January 15, 2012, 09:11:48 pm »
I have a very vague recollection that, many moons ago,  Double Decker used to have raisin in the base layer.  Am I imagining this?

I think we've had this discussion before! I cannot remember them having raisins in, but a lot of people say they do remember this. My memory is quite good, but I have been known to imagine things and to forget things too (I recently counted all the men in my family of my generation and left out my own brother!)

I think they did for the simple reason that I never used to like raisins and didn't try a Double Decker until fairly recently.  Something must have been putting me off all those years!  Perhaps one day I'll even get to like peanuts....

They definitely used to have raisins in - not sure when they were removed.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

I can't remember when was the raisin removed but I'll surely remember they did have raisins.

I've just been looking at old choc wrappers on another forum, and, sure enough, there was the original DD wrapper clearly stating that raisins were included.  So it's official.

You know what, looking at the huge variety and innovation of Cadbury's products in the '60s and '70s, then comparing it to what's available now, it's easy to understand how they've gone from being one of Britain's best-loved brands to one of the most hated.

I feel sure that there are more than just market forces at work here.  I suspect they, along with other industries (and government), have been infiltrated by one of these sinister and influential think-tanks that are seeking to destroy this country slowly but surely, step by step.  Dumbing-down is just one weapon in their arsenal.  Take a closer look at Common Purpose or the Fabian Society for starters.

Strangley enough, I had the misfortune to eat a Double Decker bar just this very day! I bit into it, looked at the bottom layer and became confused. It never looked like that years ago when I had my last Double Decker. It was definitely more dense with raisen pieces in it, not the crumbly, rice puff looking thing it is now. Also, is it me or does the nougat taste a bit crap these days? Oh, and to say it was sweet is an understatement, although when I looked at the ingredients I wasn't surprised.

I won't have another one, that's for sure

For crying out loud, why are you picking on the Fabian Society? What on earth have they got to do the a chocolate bar? Fabians have integrity and genuine belief in equality.

The Fabians were (and still are) socialists and the Fabian Society (among others) were founder members of the original and REAL Labour Party.

I'm not picking on anyone in particular, just giving an example of one possible way in which our beloved chocolate industry has gone to the wall.

The Fabians (of which Blair is a member) recently suggested that pensioners have it too good and should pay more tax.  So if that's what you mean by equality then what can I say?  Like as not they may have also said that "UK-made chocolate is too good; let's dumb it down so that it's not unfair competition against the rest of the EU".  Or whatever.  That's the point I was trying to make.  The fact that Rowntree Mackintosh, Terry's et al have gone and Cadbury is a shadow of its former self is probably not an accident.  This sort of agenda does not originate in Parliament.

I'm not blaming the Fabians specifically, just suggesting that it was a policy decision by one of their type.

Lets get this straight. The British chocolate industry went down the tubes as soon as it was taken out of the hands of the Quakers, and put into the hands of the multinationals. FACT!

I never said A WORD about equality and I am not going to enter into a political debate on a website devoted to the love of chocolate.
