Following on from the weird names for chocolate bars in America (Baby Ruth and Oh Henry) I thought it would be fun to make up a silly choc bar name.

Here is my contribution:

Reginald Jamram - a wonderful concoction of dark chocolate, soft caramel, white nougat and a jammy bit that comes in a variety of flavours - lemon, cherry, blueberry or raspberry.

Well, a Baby Ruth doesn't seem like that silly of a name to me - it is honouring one of the greatest baseball players, not to mention that it tastes lovely. Plus, I'm just used to seeing it sitting on the shelves of Walgreens.

This was on a Canadian website about the Oh Henry bar (http://www.hersheycanada.com/ohhenryproductpage.asp):

"Created by the Williamson Candy Company of Chicago, the Oh Henry!® chocolate bar came into Canada through The Lowney Company in 1924 and has been one of Canada's leading candy bars ever since. The bar was named after a boy who used to come into the Williamson Candy Company factory to flirt with the girls making candy. Every time the girls need something done, they would call "Oh Henry!". Hershey Canada acquired the Canadian rights to this bar from Nabisco on July 1st, 1987. It is manufactured by Nestle in the U.S.A."

Anyway, I hope that was insightful. By the way, great silly name for a chocolate bar!

Mars and Milky Way!?

Sorry SillyYank - did not mean to offend you. The Oh Henry story is enchanting.

Mars were, of course, originally from America so the blame for the name rests with Mr mars himself!

Silly British names for choc bars? Well yes, 54321 is rather silly and perhaps it refers to the song of the same name? I always thought Blue Riband was a bit silly but I can think of only one strangely named British choc bar and that is the fondly- remembered Five Boys - which is too well-loved to mock!

Can anyone think of any others?

Five Boys? Don't remember that one. I have enough trouble with two! According to my mum there was once upon a time a bar named Starry Way which was apparently much better than a Milky Way.

Re the 54321, I don't think it had anything to do with the song although they used that for the adverts. I got involved in a market research thing for it before they came out when they were deciding on the wrapper, advertising campaign etc and I think the name was because they had five fillings or something like that. I never liked them or the song anyway! On a different tack, if anyone remembers Icebreaker, they would have been better named Toothbreaker!

Yes, I remember those - but I preferred the Mint Cracknell - which some poeple have likened to mint-flavoured shards of glass covered in chocolate!

I am surprised you don't remember Five Boys. It was by Frys and had a picture of Five Boys in various emotional states on the wrapper. There were adverts for it everywhere - especially in railway stations as I remember. It was a very popular choc bar and disappeared some years ago.

You are right about 54321 - I do remember the five fillings now - but i never liked them. I did like United though.

Ah yes, United. That had a very blokey football-type advertising campaign didn't they, as you'd expect with a name like that. They were sort of lunchbox type biscuits weren't they? Like Clubs? Still don't remember Five Boys though!

In the 2004 annual silliness conference, Wonkalate was voted the silliest name for a chocolate bar. True!

Other silly things included the proposed merging of the Green party and the Tupperware Party.

I have now thought of a British choc bar with a silly name - Nobble. (By Cadburys - it's actually quite nice).

I agree - Wonkabar is a really silly name.

I've never had a Nobble! Another one to add to the 'must try' list. Yesterday I had a Caramac for the first time in years and it was horrible!

I have recently had a caramac and its not the same as I remember it. (Have my taste buds changed as I have got older or have they changed the chocolate taste?)

I dont think they make Nobble anymore? I have been in Woolworths and purposefully looked and I couldnt see it.
