Trick Or Treaters & Carol Singers
« on: October 24, 2011, 03:41:05 pm »
just read from a couple of sources today that certain places in the uk are outlawing both this year. what the hell, really? i've always been a big fan of halloween, and anyone who is offended by some kiddies dressing up as ghosts and collecting sweets door to door needs to have an injection of 'fun' to the heart right away. and carol singers being referred to as 'soliciting'? someone please explain to me why the pc brigade are hellbent on ruining all our festive fun in this country? they wont be happy until we're all encased in cotton wool and afraid to open our mouths.

yes, i am very pro-halloween!  >:(

very strange.
i'm not so keen on people begging for money at my door (either penny for the guy, or 'singing') - but i'm happy to give some scary kids some chocolate. Besides it gives me an excuse to buy some fun size mars or milky ways :)

indeed! that's the spirit.

i never hand out cash to anyone at the door. trick or treaters get sweeties and carol singers get mince pies.

I am not a fan of halloween and I never open my door to trick or treaters, not because I object to small children having fun but because, where I live, it's much more likely to be strapping great 20 year olds demanding lager or cider. If I know of any children who are dressing up for the fun, I visit them to look at their costumes and dish out small treats.

I tend not to open the boy. Not because I oppose halloween but it's not the same if it's not little kiddies.

On my way home this evening I was 'approached' by a man who was leading a bunch of small children dressed up for halloween. He asked me for 'some change for the kiddies' but when I explained I didn't carry cash to and from work he got a bit heavy and said 'oh come on love, it's just for one night. At least give the kids a few pennies' I actually opened my bag to show him I had no purse on me. He then called after me 'at least you could carry a few sweets or little chocolate bars with you on halloween night'. I thought it was rather intimidating but I did rather enjoy seeing other kiddies out and about enjoying themselves and behaving themselves!

that's out of order... what an idiot! you don't expect to be harrassed by the adults! lots of ghoulish activity in weymouth tonight, but as far as i could see they were only hitting the houses displaying pumpkins, which i think should be accepted everywhere as a 'we don't mind if you knock on our door' signal. my 2 year old daughter turned into the cutest witch i've ever seen and she ate waaaaay too much chocolate.

That is out of order. They shouldn't be asking for money wither - it's sweets and chocolate only if thye come knocking on my door.
I had none this year but I was prepared - I had some mini milky ways!
