I have tried every diet under the sun with no luck until recently when i decided to calorie count and walk 4 miles 5 days a week.  I have dropped a dress size and 3 bra sizes and my feet have gone back to a size 3. Not really sure how that happened but i feel so much fitter and healthier.  I even eat more than i used to . I cut out cakes and biscuits and butter but i'm still having crisps and chocolate at weekends. The only bad thing i'd say is i've got into a routine of eating the same stuff all the time . I don't understand the carbs and protein stuff so any input would be appreciated.  My typical daily meals are :
Breakfast : 3 weetabix and a yogurt or 3 slices toast with marmite or jam , no butter
Lunch :  2 pitta bread with tuna and salad and a piece of fruit
Dinner :  Chicken or Salmon with veg

Lou - I did that very same thing three years ago and lost three stones between April and September. I kept the weight off foir years too. The only reason it has crept back on is because my job does not allow me the time to go swiming and walking as much as I used to and sometimes I do not eat all day except for grabbing a cereal bar to stave off the sugar cravings when my blood sugar gets too low.  I know I have a couple of stone to shift - and it is more difficult now because of my age. However, calorie counting is the only way I know of really getting the weight off. I also think a diet high in carbs and low in fat works best.

Well done for doing so well - and you too Chocolate Chick!

No no no, high fat (but the right fats) and low carbs.  Bread, cereals and pasta are the devil's food!

Everyone has a different plan that works for them.
I like the new WW plan because you can have anything you want. I eat sensibly everyday. I get my 5 a day and 3 dairy portions and I am hardly ever starving.
My boss on the other hand just cuts things out. I can't litterally cut something out - that just does not work for me.

I think it's all about finding the plan which works for you.

Mines more of a lifestyle change than a diet.  I've spent too long sitting at a desk and not exercising . The weight is dropping off now with the walking and i'm managing 4 miles 5 times a week now. I always have 2 nights where i don't walk.  I haven't eaten three meals a day in years.  My skin is clearer and I'm not getting  out of breath like i was. I actually think if i just continued the way i was going i would have had a coronary.

I am the same - this is a life style change not just a diet.
What I am doing is working for me and I do not feel like I am missing out on a thing.
I have up'ed my exercise without really changing anything. Where we live now is further from the train station so on average I am walking 6 - 7 miles a day once it's all added up. I wear my pedometer so I can track how many steps I am doing.

i need a lifestyle change in order to lose weight... diets just aren't enough on there own (for me, anyway.) i found i was literally having zero energy by just eating processed food and fast food all the time. i felt just awful. but a few weeks of cooking everything from fresh i found there is a big difference in my energy levels. just need to use some this this extra nenergy and actually get more active now. i'm a lazy bugger.

I really want to lose 1.5lbs tonight so I can achieve my 5% goal.

I cook pretty much all my meals from scratch and once you get used to the extra preparation time it's fine. We made BBQ whiskey marinated steaks over the weekend and they were to die for. Much better than anything out of the microwave!

Since starting WW and eating the right things I have been full of energy and not tired during the day. When I was just eating junk I felt like I could nod off at any moment
