« on: April 04, 2011, 04:51:48 am »
i realise i'm a bit behind most of the rest of you here, but today i had my first Hershey bar (our Asda have just started stcoking it.) good god! how do americans eat this crap? it tasted like cheap Lidl chocolate. i mean i'd heard bad things but nothing could have prepared me for this. and it aint cheap either! i am truly traumatised.

It's not perhaps that well known - but the reason it's called Hershey is that it echoes the sounds of people hurling after eating one of those bars. You know - they sort of go HERRRRRSHEEEEEEYYYYY.

(No -they're named after the company founder really).
Old but spicey!

Congratulations, wjp, you've had your first and last Hershey bar. They only contain about 10% cocoa solids. What the other 90% is, I have no idea and never want to know. I agree with you about how Americans eat that crap.

i'm pretty sure the remaining 90% is sugar and candle-wax.

Why are you taking pictures of the stock in your local Asda? If you're not careful they'll send round the men in black and you'll vanish mysteriously.

I wrote about it on Foodstuff Finds (linky in my sig) if you want to see a pic - Took some into work for people to try. One quote said the flavour reminded him of  "being 18 at a party and the girl he fancied just threw up but he snogged her anyway".  lol

Whilst I applaud Asda for bringing more American produce to our shores (it's not all bad - Pepperidge Farm cookie anyone?), I think we could all do without Hershey.
I suppose you could argue it's an acquired taste - much like our own Cadbury Dairy Milk, although there are lots of stories of Americans desperate to get that instead of Hersheys.
