The taste of most chocolate has changed.

Hello Chocolate lovers

Sadly for me the flavour of most milk chocolate has changed, Cadburys being the exception.  No longer can can I enjoy KitKats or any former Rowntree product chocolate bars as frankly the chocolate tastes, well, disgusting, kind of over-rich with a unpleasant fatty aftertaste.  This chocolate seems to have pervaded other products like Penguin bars and many snack/lunch bars. My wife confirms the same change.  sadly Rowntrees chocolate was, for me, the most wonderful chocolate and so now I am bereft!

Only Cadburys (or should I say Kraft) has not altered.

Please someone confirm this finding/phenomena or have my taste buds gone mad?

You think Cadbury tastes the same? I'd agree that it still has a semblance of the Cadbury taste, but it's nothing like it tasted back in the 70's and early 80's. Those glass and a half glasses get bigger all the time.

I won't even buy mainstream chocolate any more, maybe apart from Green & Black's 85% and that's a rarity. I even think Hotel Chocolat is beginning to go downhill. I only really buy specialist chocolate these days; it may be more expensive, but it's worth it.

I agree totally that Nestle has completely destroyed once enjoyable chocolate bars. Yorkie now tastes like a slab of over-sweet but greasy and waxy floor polish. Toffee Crisp is a shadow of its former self. KitKats are slightly less revolting but still not their old selves - and as for Aero......

I think the answer is cheaper ingredients. More sugar - more vegetable fats - and less cocoa solids. It's volume rather than quality that Nestel aim for.

I wonder what Kraft will do with the average Cadbury product. I think we will see many Cadbury products going the same way as former Rowntrees products. Sweeter and waxcier and greasy tasting garbage.

At least it's a good reason to give up eating them and shed a few pounds!

Yes. It's waxy and sickly. It used to be lovely and creamy.

I think the only bars that still taste anything like the used to are Fry's Turkish Delight, Fry's Chocolte Cream and Fry's Peppermint Cream.

I had a Fry's Orange Creme the other day and to be quite frank I almost did a sex wee. They're bloody delicious.

I haven't had an Orange Cream for ages. I had no idea they were still around, thinking they'd gone the same way as the Five Centres bar.
