Not sure how up to date you all are with the world of horror films.  Anyway, I was brought up on a diet of RKO, Universal, Hammer, Amicus and Tyburn horror/monster films.  I love them because they can be scary and sometimes have an atmosphere of dread.  Horror is about fantasy, it's not about realism.  When you start taking the fantasy out of horror it becomes something else.  The 21st century hasn't been kind to horror lovers like me with the advent of 'torture porn', as the media like to call it.  This stuff just repels and repulses me.  So, I introduce you to A Serbian Film, which, at this moment in time, is one of the most extreme examples of 'torture porn'.  Read the synopsis at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Serbian_Film and tell me what you think. 

Be warned, though, that I'm not joking about how extreme this stuff is.  Don't look at it if you're easily offended or you don't want to spoil things.

jesus - that sounds pretty screwed up! makes 'murder set pieces' and 'guinea pig: flowers of flesh and blood' look pretty damn tame!

maybe this is 'cinema' going too far... but remember - that's just what they said about 'i spit on your grave' all those years ago, and that's pretty tame by todays standards (though the bbfc seem to disagree with me on that one.) it's and interesting debate, dr.t... and as i'm very anti-censorship and have more than a passing interest in the 'horror/slasher' genre (if that's what you can even class this as), part of me is already considering getting it imported. i'm heading to melon-famers to see what they say about it before i decide.

i was brought up watching alot of exploitation movies, such as 'cannibal ferox' and 'cannibal holocaust' etc., which is just full of things i (nowadays) find worse than the above movie like animal torture and mutilation. this is a tough subject, and one i'm truly in two minds about.

for the record - i'd rather watch hitchcock than any of the above mentioned films.

okay, i've just read the synopsis properly... i overlooked a couple of things previously, such as the 'newborn' thing. i think that is too much. i definitely swinging in the direction of feeling very repulsed now.

The BBFC made 49 cuts totalling 3:48s for the 2010 DVD/Blu-ray release.

The BBFC commented:
"These include cuts to the juxtaposition of images of children with sexual and sexually violent material. Although the Board does not regard these images as likely to contravene the Protection of Children Act 1978, the Guidelines state that intervention is most likely with, amongst other things, portrayals of children in a sexualised or abusive context."

less than 4 mins of cuts? for a film like this, that really isn't too bad. maybe this isn't that bad of a film after all. i mean 'murder set pieces' was banned outright.

Yes, the BBC cut out the, how do I put it, 'newborn' scene and the sexualised violence.  I have no idea why it wasn't banned completely as so many other films featuring sexualised violence have been.  You still can't buy Fulci's New York Ripper in this country.

Oh, and it really is that bad.

nope, ignore that. i'm wrong. it's still short of about half a minute.

i bought it uncut off ebay last year and keep meaning to watch it... i haven't seen it in so many years i've forgotten if it's any good.

I had no idea it was available in this country.  I have the uncut US Anchor Bay DVD release.
