There used to be a series called Well Loved Tales which I adored as a child - short, manageable versions of classic fairytales. They used to be 75p; a perfect pocket money price. Bizarrely, there used to be a very good selection of them at our local Do-it-All!

My favourite was one called Rocks and Minerals. I also loved the history ones and also the story of Little Ned the Donkey.

I remember when they were 2/6 - twelve and a half pence in new money!

They do, but they also have to give them John and John, Jane and Jane, and Harvinder and Ranjit books at the same time in case there's any suggestion that children should aspire to being white heterosexuals.
