Waitrose
« on: May 24, 2009, 10:05:52 am »
Managed to visit 1 of the 2 stores in Edinburgh yesterday. (Only 2 in Scotland, actually)
Seems good with a different line in all sorts of groceries. It would be a great shop for food for a party.
It certainly isn't cheap but I bought a few reduced items and froze them to keep longer (raw only).
What's everyone else's opinion of their stores?

It's a supermarket, much like any other supermarket but usually more expensive - similar to an M & S Food store. We've had Waitrose for as long as I can remember round here so it's a bit hard to be objective.  Still prefer Sainsbury's...

We only have a small Waitrose in Newcastle but I like what i've had from there, although i found it more expensive than m&s on some things.
At the moment i'm loving Asda with all these bargains and 3 for 2's.  I hate Morrisons and like Sainsburys.

My son works part-time for Waitrose as a checkout supervisor. He has worked for them since he was a 17 year old student. Now he works as a freelance media consultant, the Waitrose work brings in some money every month. They are a very good firm to work for.

I like their food. It is expensive but it's very good quality. I also think they can usually be relied upon to have something a bit different. Their bread range is fantastic and their fresh curries are lovely.
Old but spicey!

Unless they spread thoughout Scotland, they will always just be a "treat" for me.

Anyone tried the new Waitrose range they have been advertising, like the Tesco Value range of Waitrose? I wondered if it any better than the range in, say, Sainsbury's. My town lost its Somerfield store about a month ago and it is going to be made into a Sainsbury's but they are refurbishing it so I have been trying out other supermarkets in the area. I'm not very keen on Morrisson's but quite like Waitrose food although am not so seen on Waitrose prices.

Waitrose is expensive but as others have said, it is good quality. In Harborne where I used to work there was a Somerfield that changed to Waitrose, and to be honest I didn't think it was that much more expensive than Somerfield, which was definitely poorer quality.

I popped into Waitrose yesterday but only bought what was on offer , bags of grated cheese 2 for £3, garlic bread £1.20 and some kettle chips £1 a bag.
Everything else was overpriced.
