Hmmmm, in cases like this.... I believe that the state needs to reassert its authority.

Rolex watches are horrible, ugly, clunky things. Why do people with 'new money' go for them?

I think it is to show the world they have money and probably believe it is better taste than wearing a t shirt saying "i'm loaded".  Personally I agree with oldspice that rolex watches are ugly.

Status symobol of the nob-end culture that is stupid enough to buy in to it. Like the £60,000 watch, the £60,000 motor and the £1,000,000 mansion. All nob-end status symbols.

I have proved (to myself atleast) that something costing £60,000 does not make it any better than a similar item of significantly lesser value. Like the jerk at the bar of a pub one of my friends used to go to, full of hooray yuppie types and their astons. I had to point out that my rather crappy swatch watch may only cost £14.99 but it is accurate, tells the time and if it breaks... I am not facing a £5,000 repair bill and I am not advertising a valuable item that is liable to get my arm hacked off.

TBH anyone who buys something that is the value of a small house is a "Mammary Gland."

You don't get much of a mansion for a million.

What would you put in all the rooms?

I'd have a gym, a games room, a cinema, an office, a room for shoes and a room for bags, a clothes room or maybe a few clothes rooms, a music room, a room for my cat and dog. I'd have no problem with lots of rooms. Think of all the guests i could have at parties.

But, you can't take it with you.

The EX's mum was one for chasing money and buying big ticket items. It has never impressed me, you are who you are and not because of what you have. You know, the person behind the glitz, that is what counts. Take away the money, the toys and access to nice things, what are you left with?

Our society would work better without money.  Then we'd do things because we wanted to.

I do do things because i want to and seeing as you can't take your money with you then you should spend it now and have happiness. No point letting it mount upo in the bank to go to some cat shelter when you pop your clogs.
