Greedy dog cheats chocolate death

A dog narrowly avoided death after eating more than 20 chocolate cupcakes.

Polly, a one-year-old Patterdale terrier from Southampton, ate the cakes after being accidentally locked in the family's kitchen by her owners.

Owner Yvonne Taylor found the canine surrounded by chocolate wrappers and, knowing of the dangers of cocoa poisoning, contacted vets.

The greedy canine has since made a full recovery after treatment at an animal hospital in Southampton.

You better watch yourselves there, ladies!

Chocolate is, apparently, very dangerous to dogs. I am amazed this clevel doggie got the wrappers off the cupcakes. they're tricky to peel off even for humans.

My sister's dog has eaten an entire tin of Celebrations before now (including some of the wrappers).  He had no ill effects.

I've always fed my dog chocolate and he's never been ill. The vet said it was ok in small quantities.

My cat Martha (who i would like wjp to name his baby after) likes ham but she is only allowed a tiny bit as a treat since i seen a cat on Rolf Harris's Animal  Hospital show that could not walk because it ate too much ham.

Well the saying goes that you can "Love your pet to death" is very true. Herselfs granny had a parsons terrier I believe theyre called... She fed the dog too much of things like beef and ham and pork and all the foods that really are bad and the dog put on that much weight that she could hardly move, granny was warned by the vet that if she didn't stop, vera, the dog would possibly die.

Typical of the members of that side of the family, they do not listen to "Good" advice and in true fashion... she did not listen to the advice and vera had a stroke and something else happend that made her one eye pop out its socket. She is still alive, on a strict diet and granny is now worse off by £200 odd pounds in vets bills. Had she listened, vera would be in good health and granny £200 better off.

This is cruelty of a different type.

Overfeeding a pet is as bad as overfeeding a child and making it obese and a person commitiing such a crime should be imprisoned.

Chocolate is, apparently, very dangerous to dogs. I am amazed this clevel doggie got the wrappers off the cupcakes. they're tricky to peel off even for humans.

My brother had a dog that would steal chcolate. So one eatser, he hid the Easter eggs in a cupboard, tied rope on the door, which was tied to the banister in a way that you couldn't open the door unless you cut the rope. He then put a load of things in front of the door so there was no way the dog could get in. He then went out the house, happy in the knowledge his dog couldn't poison itself and he would still have his Easter eggs this year!

However, the string was broken by the dog, and the items moved by the dog out of the way. All his Easter eggs were eaten, the only thing remaining was the boxes and wrappers.

My brother had two dogs at the time, one much bigger than the Easter egg munching one. The big one would often open the kitchen door, then the small one would open the fridge with her paw. Then the bigone wouuld get items off the sehelve the little one couldn't reach. then the entire contents of the fridge would be shared between the two dogs, leaving only the crap stuff. If it was nice, they ate it. If it wasn't, they left it for us! Yet they got fed plenty. A lock on the fridge still didn't stop them, and eventually they broke the entire fridge door off its hinges!
