The stupidity of people....
« on: March 25, 2009, 11:08:04 am »
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20090325/tuk-driver-led-to-100ft-cliff-edge-by-sa-45dbed5.html

No excuses the guy, a DRIVER!!! is a complete moron.

The highway code exists for a reason, the guidelines on the use of sat nav are that you ignore IT and OBEY the highway code.

Yes, throw the book at the prat for the charge of driving without due care and attention.... Bloody idiot need his head searching.

I was a courier for 15 years for FedEx and TNT as well as HDS and I never needed a satnav to deliver on the routes I delivered on, I relied on memory and limited number of A~Z red books's and OS Maps when I needed them.

This is the other reason why I will never have one of these things, if any car I have has one I turn it off, it is just not needed.

I am not doubting that its brilliant but the fact is that the average user of sat nav does follow the instructions to the letter and forgets that the highway code overrides these devices by law, so this idiot needs to be made an example of and serve as a warning to users of these devices.

The problem is, most of these things are programmed from a database that has been generated from images from space and these devices have mistaken many footpaths as dirt roads.

They are brilliant but flawed.

Anyone putting 100% faith in to one of these devices really needs their heads searching. Me despite my lust for technology draw a line at this type of technology I am most certainly old school when it comes to navigation.

I understand that they do make rather good MP3 players, those that can play mp3's but apart from that, no thanks.

The trouble with SatNav is that you have to take your eyes off the road to look at it and that can cause no end of problems.  Give me a map anyday.

EYE!

Joking apart, prolly what happened to Claudia Lawrence, some driver too busy looking at the sat nav and "WHOMP" one dead chef. If you pok the postcode in that they have on the Yorkshire police web site, you get to see that the road she would have walked along is pretty fast.

It wouldn't surprise me if that 9 year old boy in wales that got hit by two cars last week was another satnav hit and run.

Whilst they are good, they are also dangerous. I wonder how many people have been in accidents or killed because of drivers using these devices.

You don't have to look at your sat nav, just listen to it. Wouldn't you be taking your eyes off the road to read your map? I've just asked The DHL courier and the Business Post man what they think of sat nav and they think they are great.

That is true when the device is being used as its intended purpose but when playing music like MP3's or during a phone call...

I may not own one of these things but I do know how they function ;)

I used in on holiday in the US. It was shit tbh. I ended up relying on Marble and my own sense of direction.
