Well it is far simpler to say that deomcracy ended when athenian style politics ended and what it has been replced with is nothing but a dictaorship.

We are not, in any way, close to a dictatorship. Perhaps we are not as democratic as you would wish but we are far from being dictated to. The problem with this country is that people refuse to take their responsibilities seriously, so it is necessary to legislate in order to protect the majority. If people would only be good citizens, then fewer legislations would be necessary.

Well I am not talking about the government nannying the majority, that is something different. Democracy is the active participation of an individual, not a government making up regulations for people to follow, that is in essence a dictatorship. Which is what were heading towards unless people stand up an speak out.

Well, it's up to people to do that. If they're too arse lazy to vote and to speak up, then they will be the type of people who 'things happen to' rather than the type of people 'who make things happen'.

We are heading for a form of Orwellian totalitarian state.  The government wants to impose ID cards on everyone and use the threat of 'terrorism' as an excuse.  I completely agree with oldspice that the people need to vote.  Our ancestors fought for this right and what do people do with it?

Oh, and I've never been called up for jury service, but I expect I will.  I sat in the Old Bailey gallery whilst a rape trial was on once.  Not nice!
