Would you pay to use toilet on plane?
« on: February 28, 2009, 05:27:36 pm »
Irish budget airline Ryanair has said it is considering charging passengers £1 for using the toilet while flying.

I think that is very reasonable.  Last time I used the toilet in Harrods it was £1.

It's disgusting IMHO to charge someone to go to the toilet.

Not when you think wages have to be paid to the person cleaning them.

Are they going to sell any nasty £2 cups of “coffee” any more, unless it includes a free fast-unloading token for the crapper?

I've never paid for coffee or food on a flight.

IMHO Ryanair might've done a lot of silly things in the past but I can't imagine them stupid enough to actually try and do this.

The average Ryanair flight is only 2 hours so a lot of people can cross their legs.

Crossing legs leads to health problems with bladder and kidneys.

It has been known since long distance haulage started up that the problems caused by drivers "Holding on" until a truck stop, leasd to long term issues like prostrate problems, kidney problems, more prone to water infections and bladder problems.

Their was a case just recently where a woman did just that and she waited too long and her blader burst and she had to have emergency surgery.

I recently flew to Dublin and back on Ryanair for 1p each way.  I wouldn't have minded paying for the toilet but didn't need it on the short flight.  I didn't buy any food or drink either but the prices looked reasonable.

I think £1 to use Harrod's toilets is reasonable because they are so fantastic and you get really lovely soap, handcream, tissues etc. However, £1 to squeeze into a Tuppaware box that is full of wet tissue, fag ends and other people's deposits is extortion.

I have flown with Ryan Air. The plane was comfortable and, because the coffees were so large, we shared one and it was very nice indeed and not bad at about £1.60p.

Still, I will be checking the legality of RyanAir wanting to charge for this as I believe it will be infringing on your rights and i believe its illegal because of the circumstances your in.

Had this been a public toilet, fair enough. Its the same principle of a theatre, the toilets are in an enclosed building to service the clients in that enclosed space.

I can tell you this much, if I ever fly ryanair and they impose this, I wont mind taking a earther in the isle and then suing ryanair for public humiliation, my human rights being infringed and any other legal brick I can toss at them that will weight them down in a shower of unwanted media attention.

Netbuddy's right, this is an infringement on people's human rights.  A plane is an enclosed space and you have no choice but to use the loo, so what are you supposed to do if you have no money?  It's up to Ryanair to pay their cleaners, not the public.  They already charge for the seats, the luggage capacity, the food, etc., so why do they need the money for the loo?
