One law for the celebs and one for the rest of us?
« on: February 21, 2009, 04:21:13 pm »
Justice Secretary Jack Straw stepped in to lift a curfew on Jack Tweed so that he can stay in a hotel on his wedding night.
So will that stand for all ex prisoners who come out of prison and are tagged and getting married?

By the way Jack Tweed is the one marrying Jade Goody on Sunday.

Well, in the circumstances, I think that anything that can be done to make their big day special should be done - not because she's a celeb but because she's very sick and is going to die very soon.  I'm no great fan of JG, I think is a bit of an ignoranmous, but I think she's very brave to be doing this so publically and I hope they have a beautiful day on Sunday.

This only shows how desperate the government is to show that it is caring.

You have to ask yourselves, had this been you, would you have been shown the same kind of grace that these two have been given? I seriously doubt it.

I would hope that if this situation (which must be very rare) did confront 'ordinary' people, then the government would display a similar flexibility.

With regard to Jade.  Apparently there has been a 20% increase in girls going for cervical screening.  I too am not a fan, but may God bless her in her final hour.

So Jack Tweed is up in court again on march 3rd on another assault charge.
He is facing 6 months in prison.
Will the judge be right in not sending him to prison so he can spend time with his dying wife? I don't think so.

As far as I was aware the judiciary have upheld the curfew.  It was the government that ruled that he could spend the night with his dying wife.  I suspect they made the correct decision and it was only the minister who could make this call.  I can't begin to guess what the judge will do.  They are all as mad as hatters.

A family friend died recently and his son was refused permission to break his curfew to stay at the hospital and spend his dad's last hours with him. If his dad had been famous would this have happened? To be fair though, the man in this case had absconded before, so maybe that changed things.

I think he should have been allowed to be with his father in his final hours.  Anyone facing these sorts of circumstances should be shown mercy.

This whole situation is media generated bollocks!  Jade Goody isn't even a celebrity!  What has she done?  Been gobby and stripped off on Big Brother?  Been even gobbier on Celebrity Big Brother?  In fact, I think she's just gobby!  OK, the woman is dying of cervical cancer, but thousands of others are facing the same thing.  Do they get a seven-figure sum to appear exclusively in Hello rag?  Will they get a wedding dress from Harrods gratis?  As for Jack Tweedy, they should have left him inside.  Why should he get special treatment?  So they can make their wedding night 'special'?

Sorry if I'm coming across as a bit harsh, but this whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  Jade's kids are now going to be well looked after once she's left this mortal coil.  Can the same be said for other cancer patients' kids?

Jade already had 3.3 million left in trust for her 2 sons so to say she has sold her wedding for another million for her kids is either greed or a lie. I think she just loves the attention. If her and Jack are so in love why don't they take a trip to the local registry office , have no press interviews and spare us all.

I feel incredibly sorry for Jade and her family, but the media have blown this somewhat out of proportion. When it was announced the cancer was terminal, The Sun's headline was 'The tragedy we all dreaded'. Yes, of course it's tragic, but did we really all dread it? I dread another 9/11 or a repeat of the Aussie bushfires.

By discussing her life on here, Lou you are propagating her media status.
She'll be gone soon enough and the public will find the next big thing to bitch about.

Speaking as someone who grew up without both parents from the age of 11, anything Jade can do to make her sons' lives better after she has done will be of benefit to them. Of course, no amount of money can compensate for their loss but not having to worry about money will make things at least more comfotable for them. Of course the media is interested - it's because having Jade in their publication helps them bring in revenue - people, for whatever reason, buy things with Jade on the front. Personally, I don't see the attraction in the cult of celebrity and Jade has certainly done nothing much in the past to warrant such interest in her. However, here is an opportunity for her to make a difference - to raise awareness of cervical cancer and to show people that even in the shadow of death you can make a difference to people's lives. For that I raise my glass to her and I hope the weeks or months she has left with her husband and boys are happy - that she leaves them precious memories of the brave person she is.
