This is the most snow I've seen in Nottingham for years and years.  To put his snow into some context:  I was in Lapland in June.  I had an email from my friend there and he says they have 3 metres of snow in some places.  Whole roads just disappear.  But you can drive across the lakes, so it's swings and roundabouts

I was impressed (and worried) at the number of people trying to drive into work. Major roads were generally ok, but connecting roads were pretty awful.
We're just not setup for such conditions in the South (apart from those with 4x4's). Mind you if this is the worst snow in 18 years then I guess it doesn't matter if things do come to a halt for a day or two. Enjoy it while it lasts (which won't be very long at all).

And today after it nearly thawing completely, I wake up to this...

I have been watching drivers trying to drive in it, funny as the F word.

Still this is more than the other day which has to be the most I have ever seen in 11 years of living here.

It's absolutely terrible here. Even though I live only a 15 minute walk from work, I was unable to go in today as firstly, the college is closed but secondly, I couldn't even go in and work on marking and planning as it is virtually impossible to walk on the pvements and roads. The city is almost completely cut off as the Fenland roads have deep dikes alongside them which are full of very deep icy water. Cars and coaches would slither off the roads into the dikes so many of the roads are closed. No buses are running at all. i haven't seen snow this deep for many years.

We had a heavy shower shower in the morning yesterday and it seems panic set in.  The buses almost immediately stopped running, the schools closed and everyone worried about getting home.  The snow reached an impressive depth of perhaps one inch (on the pavements, not the roads), then it started raining and had all gone by 2 pm.

Yesterday (Friday) it snowed for eight hours. It started at 8am and got progressively worse until, at 11am, we were in blizzard conditions. We already had six to eight inches of snow on the ground from the previous day so you can imagine how much eight hours worth produced. Some schoold opened but then closed again almost immediately. Chaos was caused by everyone in town trying to collect their children and head for home all at the same time. By 4pm, motoring-wise, it was a ghost town. No buses - few cars. However, all over the city, beautiful snow sculptures have been created - including a huge snowman in our beautiful Victorian park. Children and parents are out enjoying the snow (not much chance of sledging in the Fens though!).

This morning it is very icy but sunnny. It is predicted that we will get more snow on Sunday and Monday.

Hope everyone out there stays safe and warm.

We don't have a lot of snow left here today and it is quite sunny. GC when did you last see a decent amount of snow?

I can tell you that precisely because the local newspapers keep going on about it - February 1978!

PA has not had the usual amounts of snow we are used to, but I think they are calling for a few inches tomorrow and Thursday.
