The folly of religion
« on: December 23, 2008, 05:21:55 pm »
At this appropriate time of year, i think the Pope has managed to remind some of us why "religions" are devisive and nothing like the spiritual and moral guardians they purport to be.

Now, unless he comes out and states his comments were taken out of context and meant nothing of the sort, then he is essentially alienating a large section of the world's population as the Muslim religion also does and the Catholic church with their views on contraception.

Do unto others as you would have done to yourself (sorry for any inaccuracies, I'm not religious).
Time for people to practise this and stop "following orders".

Rant over.

Well I am not religious either, if I was, I would follow the religion of science and worship at the cathedral of computer.

I could rant on myself about religion but it would be pointless.

I hope you can stick this in your rear window or on your bumper...

I didn't need any more convincing to be an atheist - but if I'd had any doubts, I think His Hypocriticalness in Rome would have banished them today.

Personally, I'm just agnostic. All the "books" and "teachings" in the world can't change that.

I think the Pope should address the problems in his own church (re child abusers of various sorts). It is strange indeed for a man who claims never to have sex to comment on the legal and loving sexual preferences of others whilst at the same time turning a blind eye to the abuse that goes on in his own flock.
Old but spicey!

God bless everyone on the Chocolate forum and may you all have a peaceful Christmas.  Also, spare a thought for those in the World who will have nothing to eat on Christmas Day

I think everyone should go pagan!  Celebrate what really matters, like the world you live in and the people you know.  Oh, and drink lots of mead and go mental at pagan events!

We only have poverty because of the greedy top 10%.  Without them, all would be in abundance.

ICelebrate what really matters, like the world you live in and the people you know.

I agree. I still celebrate Christmas in a sense, but not the religious sense - I see it as a time to enjoy being with family and friends, and to be thankful for the good things that have happened to you and yours during the year.

There is a difference between accepting the love of God and the observance of a religion.

True. I don't do either personally, but if it floats your boat, good for you :)

I had to sing in Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve - I found the whole thing somewhat bemusing.  But as Smurfy says, "If it floats your boat...."
