Krispy Kreme Donuts
« on: November 24, 2008, 06:27:41 pm »
i had my first experience with krispy kreme donuts this weekend. i paid a whopping £9 for a dozen (mainly chocolate) from a near-by tesco. and i have to say i don't know what all the fuss is about. they tasted just like your average donut, just a lot sicklier. i can't see where they get off charging so much for them. grossly disappointed all round!

anyone else tried 'em? (and did you feel as ripped off as i did?)

yes, it took a lot for me to part with the money for a mere 12. i could have bought about 40 standard ones for that.

I had them in America and loved them . Everyone who has them in this country says they are horrible. Perhaps they are made differently. £9 is shocking.

I really want to try them, but I'm usually a) on a diet, b) too poor or c) both when I see them.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

Hmmm, I (as Loulou) got my first taste of krispy's in the states. They are great out there. Mrs Chocadmin and I agree they're just not as good here (certainly the flavours are less adventurous). Having said that I still think they're better than anyone elses doughnuts (perhaps a bit pricey ;) ).
What I really miss are the chocolate doughnut, chocolate iced submarine things that tesco used to make - I reckon they stopped selling them coz someone must've had a heart attack from eating one (Mrs Chocadmin thinks I'm barking :) )

i'm a big fan of ASDA 'Yum-Yums'. simple, but affective. (and only 98p for 4! yay!)

75p each is a bit steep when you can buy a bag of 5 jam, apple or custard for 65p or 10 for £1.

Had you bought the ingredients, you could have made at least 200 for that!

2 buckets of lard, some flour, water, sugar and E numbers to get "off your tits" on.
Heat the lard whilst mixing the next 3 ingredients, make balls, poke your finger through the middle, fry until saturated and coat with E'd sugar.

Well I like Bake Bread and I like baking cakes and pies and a Dough nut is a Dough nut at the end of the day, several methods exist to make them, some require baking, some require frying and some are made more like pan cakes. The benefits of being Granny reared... No wonder I was 14 Stone at 12years old in School.

As far as factory made ones go... I'M with paul on that one, although that actually sounds more like the recipe for McDonalds Milk shakes...

Mmmmm Larrrrrrrd, available in Strawberry, Chocolate or Banana flavor. Coming Soon... Original Rennet & Diet Cola Flavors.
