Ross and Brand
« on: October 29, 2008, 05:31:23 pm »
I am so pleased that the BBC has finally pulled the plug on this pair of idiots. What they did would have been disgraceful from a pair of twelve year olds. From this highly paid duo it is wholly unaccetable.  No wonder we have so many young people with no social skills thinking they can do and say as they wish. What an example they have in this pair?

I hope they are off our screens and radios for a good time to come. Let them have plenty of time to think about the consequences of their actions and the honoured position they have abused.

I concur entirely Oldspice. Some say it has been blown out of all proportion and that whoever let it air is to blame. That misses the big picture. WHO do they think they are to phone up a person who had previously agreed to be on the show but phoned to say he couldn't make it? I know, well phone him up and make crank calls!
R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
A hard to come by value these days.

Can someone help me down now please?

I read Ross can pronounce his R's perfectly well but deliberately pronounces them as W's.
Years ago you couldn't get a job in tv if you couldn't speak correctly. Even a lisp was unacceptable.

This has become so ridiculous. The BBC employed Russell Brand knowing full well his style of humour was close to the bone (not that I think what he did on this occasion was particularly humourous). Presumably that's precisely why several elements of his show are PRE-RECORDED. Sorry Paulham, but I'm one of the people who think it's the editor/producer who let this go to air that should be sacked. He or she is employed to prevent incidents such as this. Yes, Ross and Brand were stupid - but it was BBC production staff who decided, rather than to recognise their mistake and insist they make a private apology to the people involved, to let it go out on air on the UK's most popular radio station.

Last week Georgina Baillie was a complete unknown whose only claim to 'fame' was her grandfather's appearance in a 30 year-old sitcom. Now she's all over the papers and national television (in full make-up and with freshly done hair, despite her apparent 'distress'). Given that she's a burlesque dancer in a troupe called - wait for it - The Satanic Sluts, this sweet little innocent act doesn't wash. Unbelievably, despite admitting she DID sleep with Brand, she's still calling for he and Ross to be sacked. Sack them? She should appoint them as her publicists.

UPDATE: Actually, she doesn't need to - I've just read she's appointed Max Clifford. Because that's just who you want around if you're seeking a swift return to privacy and obscurity, isn't it?

I totally agree that the person who allowed this to air should be sacked.

I also agree that this incident has given the young lady in question a lot of publicity. However, telephoning an elderly gentleman (whoever he happens to be) and yelling down the phone that you have 'f****d his granddaughter and he may therefore 'hang' himself was appalling behaviour. People in positions such as this have professional standards to follow (just as I do) and the pnealty for abusing that position should be swift andf firm.

You nailed it for me Oldspice.
Smurfy, if those 2 couldn't see what was wrong with sending this type of message ("joke" or not) then I'm sorry but what does that tell you about their morals.
The BBC shouldn't have aired it and heads should roll for that, but they shouldn't have been put into the position of needing to review such comedy in the first instance.

Well given it's going to cost him about £1.5m, I imagine Jonathan Ross will be thinking twice about his next joke.

Last night Tesco had a huge display of Ross's latest book. It might amuse you to know that it's called 'Why Do I Say These Things?'

I find myself somewhat in agreement with Smurfboy on this one.  I believe the Controller of BBC2 has now resigned so Smurf's wishes have come to pass.

I am one of those people who like humour pushed to the limit, although not when it involves abusing an old man.  Spike Milligan wouldn't have done this, and he referred to Prince Charles as a 'little bastard' on live TV, something which would have finished others' careers.  Milligan knew what was funny but he also knew where the boundaries were and when those boundaries were appropriate.  Ross and Brand got that badly wrong this time.

So now it seems Jeremy Clarkson has made a comment about lorry drivers murdering prostitutes. It's had 500 complaints so far.

Only 500 Jeremy? Must try harder.

That's a somewhat tasteless joke but not aimed at an individual.  It's interesting to note that there were never any jokes about the Dunblane massacre.  Some things just aren't funny.

Andrew Sachs's granddaughter Georgina Baillie has called for Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross to be reinstated.

The 23-year-old said Radio 2 DJ Brand's resignation and Ross's three month suspension without pay was "out of proportion".

Baillie, who performs with her dance troupe the Satanic Sluts, has also told how she wants to pursue a career as an actress and model.

She told broadcaster Five in her first TV interview: "I was really angry when I said I wanted them both to be fired, but I think the suspension was good enough. So I'm feeling a bit gutted really about the whole thing.

"I think it's way out of proportion what's happened, and I don't hate either of them, I don't at all. I think they're really talented comedians and I think a world without Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand would be a very sad, dull place.

"You know I think Russell needs to learn a few lessons about respecting women, definitely, and maybe Jonathan Ross could maybe think before he speaks in the future. I don't have any harder feeling than that."

She added: "I want to keep performing with my dance troupe. And all these modelling offers have come through which is quite interesting. I thought about doing modelling a few years ago but was told I was a bit too chunky for that, but now all of a sudden I'm not, so that's great.

"So I think I might be doing a bit of modelling, and I've also done a bit of acting in the past, so I might try and get back into that."

Baillie said: "My final word would be that it's a shame that it got out of hand, and Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross are great performers and they made a mistake and they apologised to my granddad which was very important to me. I hope that everyone can move on and that we can forget about this."

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20081104/ten-baillie-in-call-to-reinstate-stars-5f8abb3.html

She has little to forgive in this. It is her grandfather who was the recipient of the abuse.
I guess she feels she needs to stoke up her free publicity.
Shame on her!
