You've heard of the credit crunch, now the carrot crunch is here. Farmers are fearing the worse as sales in vegetable derivatives are at all time high. Parsnips, beetroot and turnips are expected to follow suit if nothing is done to halt the slide.
Lewellyn Williams of the Root Vegetable Alliance said, 'These are worrying times for all vegetable growers. We have known that such a problem could occur, but no one ever thought it would be a reality. Vegetable derivatives have been a little known corner of the market and the slump has been caused by a few careless market traders.'
