PC World employ the unemployable.
« on: September 27, 2008, 10:06:08 pm »
Went to PC World yesterday and normally receive quite a good discount on stationary products that i purchase there but was told there would be no discounts due to "the credit crunch". Surely they are not training their staff to come out with " We cannot give you any discount due to the credit crunch that is happening".Duh!
The assistant then went on to tell me that all the staff had changed because they had all left when the bonuses were stopped.
So tactful me said "so the only people working here will be people working for the minimum wage who cannot get a job anywhere else?" and the assisant replied "yeah, that's right".

Great thread.  Presumably MacDonalds is now closed owing to having no staff?

Everywhere, you hear people calling it a 'credit crunch' - even on Radio 4. It is such an understatement. It is a very serious economic crisis and liekly to have far-reaching effects for some time to come.

I hate going into PC World. When you do find a member of staff to ask about a product, they always look about 8 years old and rabbit on using acronyms so that only a robot could understand them. They look at you as if you are deaf and mad if you ask them to repeat the information in clear English.
Old but spicey!

I know what you mean.  Like the time my PC wouldn't reboot.

Spotty oik: "Ah yes sir, it will be the proxy driver linked to the ZX-A39 spool mother board- sync panel.  Have you tried pressing Ctr+alt+del while holding down F10 and pressing the space bar after seven seconds at the prompt?"
Me: "Erm..."
Spotty oik: "Have launched it in Safe mode, while using the warp-factor option in the anti-matter drive while holding down F9+del+F8+del..."
Me: zzzzzzzzz

Last Christmas PC World held a staff party at the hotel where my husband works.  He'd never seen anything like it.  The management bought drinks for all their underage staff but when they got extremely drunk amd started causing trouble said it was nothing to do with them.  It resulted in quite a lot of damage and compensation being paid.  Until then my son had been quite interested in getting a job there but he rapidly went off the idea.

PC World do not employ people, they have a special facility where they are grown or cloned or both!

Walking in to PC world on the rare occasions I do venture in to have a bloody good laugh at the prices, well they make me chuckle, £199 for a UMPC notebook that I can pick up for £129 with better spec... Well it makes me laugh.

I would say that if you were in MacD's flipping burgers, your prospects of moving up the food chain are better than working for a retailer like PC World.

If you go to PC World to purchase something that is on the shelf priced at £600 then tell them you are a business they can instantly knock the price down to £300 so just how much profit are these people making.

I know I may sound a bit snobbish (sorry), but it would be great if people knew how a PC worked.  I don't been at a subatomic level, but just the basic bits and bobs that make it go.  Consumers could make a more informed choice if they knew their onions.

Huh! That's easy! There is a switch on the front that you press and it then comes on.
I used to work in PC World you see.

Press any key to begin

Where's the "Any" key?

In the early eighties I thought the video was a sideways toaster.  OK, I was only 16.  It never played any videos after that but the toast was OK.
