A country life for punk antichrist
« on: September 25, 2008, 07:09:55 pm »
The Sex Pistols' punk antichrist, Johnny Rotten, is the new - and unlikely - face of British butter after being signed to promote Country Life.

The singer, aka John Lydon, fresh from the band`s appropriately-named Combine Harvester tour, is very much the dapper English gent for this latest incarnation.

Decked out in an English gentleman-style tweed outfit, Lydon features in adverts for Country Life that will hit screens in October.

As part of his first television advertising campaign, Lydon struts around various British locations as he tries to decide why he thinks the butter is his favourite.

The advert concludes: "It's not about Great Britain, it's about great butter" and will first be screened during the ITV Pride of Britain Awards next month.

Country Life said: "He is seen as a great British icon. His independent views are part of his consumer appeal and his tongue-in-cheek sense of humour shines through in our TV advertising."

I read John Lyndon's autobiography and found that he came over as the most irritating, arrogant lay about I have ever encountered.  Although I liked/like some punk music, I didn't like the Sex Pistols at all. I thought they were talentless and revolting yobs and John Lyndon doesn't seem to have changed at all. I can't think of a worse person to promote something as delightful as butter (well, maybe Johnathan King).

John Lydon is one of those supposed 'clever' people.  He rants on about all and sundry, appears on reality TV and now he's going to be the face of Country Life, and it's all because he's sticking two fingers up at everyone.  The truth is he's an irritating, money-grabbing tosser who just happened to front Britain's most well known 'punk' band.  By 'well known', I don't actually mean good.  Real punks know what real punk is, and it was never a fashion statement!

He's cartainly clever, but he's never done anything constructive with his intelligence. That's fine - if he wants to piss his ability up the wall it's his choice, but he spends a lot of time sneering at other people and trying to shock people by seeing how many swear words he can fit into a sentence. It's like he's never grown up.

All these so-called anarchists give it up in the end. Remember when Toyah Wilcox wanted to turn suburbia upside down? Now you're more likely to find her in dictionary corner on Countdown.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

Yes but Toyah was never obnoxious. She was rather sweet with her lisp 'it's a mithstery, it's a mithstery....

At least she has grown up gracefully.

Total anarchy is an impossible concept.  Chaos without some form of order just couldn't happen.  But it is possible to hold anarchist views without wanting to completely smash the state.

Toyah is a joke as she's even given into cosmetic surgery.
