Truffles in Roses?
« on: September 21, 2008, 08:46:54 am »
I hadn't bothered looking at boxes of Roses chocolates for months and months, but the other day I noticed that they no longer have the praline (silver wrapper) or Chunky Truffle (blue wrapper), both of which were my favourites. It seems to be virtually entirely comprised now of caramels, fudges and creams; all of which (bar the few nice plain-ish chocolate ones) I find to be rather similar, and unappealing (bar the few nice plain-ish chocolate ones).

I wonder what prompted this move, as I'd have thought that, considering the boxed chocolate market, pralines and truffles were popular, so removing these would be detrimental from a marketing and target audience perspective, as a product like Roses would (one would have presumed) be aimed at as wide a market and cross-section of tastes as possible. Bizzare.

I think they have been listening to my previous diatribes about the all pervasive nature of pralines in the chocolate world these days.
There is however, always room for a chunky truffle.

Exactly. They have actually removed any sweets of that kind of nature from the assortment thus alienating a whole area of the chocolate sector. Personally I'll really miss the praline as I love it. I still cannot understand why they've done this: to me it makes no sense both from a purely logical/intellectual and a marketing/target audience point of view.
Are pralines not as popular as I suspected? Why so many assortments dedicated to them then? I loathe creams and fudges and am not overly keen on toffees or caramels. Am I really weird?

Prahleens are in every box of chocolate generally these days.
They are a very boring filler that takes no imagination to come up with.
Ask Oldspice about the sad demise of fruit fillings in a box of chocolates nowadays.
Toffee, nougat, chocolate, honeycombe, caramel, raisin, mint, coconut, Turkish delight and macadamia. Now these I like!

Oh now if they came up with some different and interesting (but not sickly i.e. always ganache/mousse) fillings then it would be cool. Turkish delight, nougat, honeycomb/butterscotch/nuts/any kind of flavour chips/pieces/bits of fruit etc. Now these would be a wonderfully refreshing and welcome change. But now the majority of the damn assortment is toffee, fudge or caramel, which are really permutations of the same concept. No variety at all. And for someone who cannot stomach anything buttery or rich...

I'm not a big fan really, but my girlfriend likes a big, chunky one every now and then. Ooh, missus!

Apologies for the necromancy, but I didn't think it warranted a new topic:

Not that I'm particularly fond of truffles, it seemed more of a curiosity... They have weighout bags of Roses blue truffles in the discount-sweet-shop-thing in Willenhall (I think its named 'The Market Hall', but it isn't the actual market hall).

More than anything, this begs the question... HOW OLD ARE THEY?

I have no idea. Don't they do these in Roses anymore?

Oh, and if you want anything in italics try [], not <> ;)
