Looking for a name of a song: FOUND IT!
« on: August 20, 2008, 08:02:02 pm »
Iam trying to found a name to a piece of music form the 1970's ,

1970's classic Funk song, Black, African American Or Caribbean American. band? It about 6 - 8 mins long and There no singing in it for about first 3- 4mins and then it like a rap..... the First 3mins of which there is ****NO SINGING**, I have to this bit clear. it very famous piece of music BUT ITS NOT THE Themem Shaft" by Issac Hayes.

IT does sound synthesize but it sound relaxed and cool it a **weird sounding song****,  Very Hip, cool relaxing, chilling out. The synthesize., is only with the second beat.  The First beats stays the same ( sounds like claping) while another which is the synthesize goes up in sound and then down in sound. but it sound relaxed and cool.

I have no idea about the lycis as its the tune I like. I have heard it a couple of time on TV. it been used many time on tv!

Any ideas??????

I have a very long list of what is not:

Jeez, I have a hell of a lot longer list of what it isn't.
Trying to describe a song in text is next to impossible.
Can you try humming it to us, 623?

My best guess is that it is either Time is Tight or Green Onions, both by Booker T. Both employ a Hammond organ, both have a slight reggae beat. Both were recorded in the early 60s but made a re-apperance in the charts in the early 1970s. Both are heard frequently on TV.

But 623, surely what YOU think is funky and sexy might not be what I think is funky and sexy. everyone's idea of what sounds funky and sexy must differ.

Have you tired You Tube?

I wondered about Funky Town but the first beat doesn't sound like clapping.

It could be The Hustle by Van McCoy which might be described as relaxed and cool but never funky  - and it has no clapping. It is famous, it is from the 70s, it is used a lot on TV so it fits some categories.

It might also be Rock & Roll Part 1 & 2 by Gary Glitter. That starts with clapping, is an instrumental without much singing but I wouldn't describe it as funky or cool and it isn't used much on TV.

The hustle begins with vocals.  So not that.

The other thought I had was 'Shame' by Evelyn Champagne King - it's instrumental for about the first minute.
