Unusual ice cream flavours revealed

A range of new flavours of ice cream has been unveiled at a Japanese festival.

More than 125 varieties of the dessert were presented at the Yokohama Ice Cream Expo, the Telegraph reports.

Running over two weeks, flavours including cheese, octopus and prawn were available, with organiser Manabu Matsumoto claiming beef tongue was the most popular.

"We have ice cream from all over Japan – from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south – but beef tongue has been the one that people keep coming back for," he told the newspaper.

He explained that the unusual ice creams were often produced to incorporate local delicacies in various regions. Although Japanese people do not traditionally eat a dessert, Mr Matsumoto said that it is emerging as a refreshing summer option.

The most delicious ice cream I ever tasted was a brand called Davilles and the flavour was licquorice.  They did all kinds of lovely flavours - including a heavenly spearmint one. We had a branch in Walthamstow, east London, near where I used to live.
