Couldn't this footballer afford insurance and a taxi
« on: June 09, 2008, 09:29:49 pm »
A professional footballer charged over the deaths of two young brothers in a motorway crash has been released on bail.

McCormick leaves courtPlymouth Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick appeared before Fenton magistrates in Stoke-on-Trent this morning

He received conditional bail and will reappear before Stoke Crown Court on June 16.

The boys' mother, Amanda Peak, was pictured clutching a photograph of her children and a teddy bear outside court.

She sobbed in the public gallery during the brief hearing.

McCormick, 24, faces two charges of causing death by dangerous driving, one of driving with excess alcohol and one of driving without insurance.

Yes, this is one disgusting and very sad story.
Some footballers just seem to think themselves above the law.

Let's face it.  Half of them are out of control.  When Wayne Rooney retires he will be returned to the wild.

Colleen will be keeping Wayne under control. Don't they get married next week?

I saw the father of the two boys who survived the accident on TV last night and it was so sad. The poor mother has not only lost both her kids, but her husband will probably be paralysed too.

Obviously I don't know the full facts, but if McCormick really was driving without insurance as well as being under the influence he really should have several books thrown at him.

Re the insurance - he was probably insured for a different car. Perhaps he was driving a friend's car. I can hardly believe he could not afford insurance on the pay they get. It looks as though his car forced the other car off the road and down an embankment. If he is guilty of all these charges, he should rot for life.

That doesn't work - if he was insured fully comp (and surely he would be) on his own car, then he would be insured third party on any other car unless he was driving without the owner's permission.

That's a popular misconception, Goldencup. A lot of policies have changed in the last few years without any big headlines.
Check your own policy wording. You might be surprised.
A lot of the big companies are taking the third party in other car out of the standard conditions and making it an option.
[Don't assume you're allowed to drive other people's cars
Many people assume that if they have comprehensive car insurance then they are automatically covered to drive other people's cars. This is not always the case. Some insurers no longer offer this cover and those that do don't offer it to everyone. The only way to know is to check your insurance certificate, which will state clearly if you have it.

One more thing to beware of is that the 'driving other cars' extension gives you just the basic insurance cover allowed by law. This is called Road Traffic Act cover, which is even less than third-party only insurance. The nub of this is, if you have an expensive accident whilst driving someone else's car, you may end up being liable for part of the other party's claim!]

Forget the insurance. He should be locked up for life for getting behind the wheel when he had been drinking.

So do I.  And yes Paulham, I'm still covered for any car.

I've subsequently discovered he was driving his own car. He had no insurance. That poor man may be crippled for life and there's no one to pay for his care.

The footballer should have to give any savings he has to the family.
