Black Magic (old skool)
« on: April 14, 2008, 04:30:32 pm »
Hello all,
I'm looking for some references for the old style designs of Nestle Black magic chocolates. According to the company themselves, their production now takes place overseas, and the archived packaging no longer exists.

I wondered if anyone knew of anywhere I could get my hands on a sample of the original packaging??

Thanks for any help!

Well, how far back do you want to go? Black Magic was originally made by Rowntrees. You could try checking out the old packaging archive held by Robert Opie. He has been collecting packaging since the 1950s and has a huge collection of grocery and sweet wrapper dating back to the lkate 1950s. I bet he had an old Black Magic box tucked away somewhere.

Black Magic boxes used to be lovely when they had the ribbon on.

Black Magic - yet another British favourite that Nestle have completely decimated.  And to add insult to injury, the product is now adorned with 'Masonic' symbolism!  Somebody's taking the p*** out of us...

The Masons is the most stupid thing going. What worries me is that people in positions of power let it influence their lives (and ours by association).

I'm not saying I agree with the Masons (like most people who are not involved, I know very little about them) but they are hardly the most stupid thing going.  They actually raise a hell of a lot of money for charity.

Isn't there something called the buffaloes? I believe it is the working class version of the masons.

What I think is stupid is the way it's all shrouded in secrecy and that being a Mason can get you privileges you don't deserve. There are plenty of organisations that raise money for charity without trying to give themselves the air of being some mystical society that it's an honour to join. My friend's father is a Mason and even though he's desperately short of cash, he's just spent weeks doing DIY for a very rich woman for free purely because she's a fellow Mason's widow. To me that's pretty stupid.

Yes, agreed, they do some very bizarre things.  My dad was a Mason and when he died the only acknowledgement we got was for them to enquire if mum would be continuing with his monthly donation (something she wasn't even aware he did and stopped immediately).  She certainly had no help from them, DIY or anything else.  I just meant that there are other organisations out there that are even more stupid!
