Forum upgrade
« on: March 30, 2008, 07:41:51 pm »

Hi all,
Just to let you know I'm looking at replacing the forum at some point in the not too distant future (next 3months I guess). Largely because of the adverts (that get more annoying all the time), and the performance of the current forum (it needs upgrading, but that seems pointless without paying to remove the ads - and it still wouldn't be as fast as others).
I'll be looking at migrating as much of everyone's existing forum profiles as possible (don't worry there won't be an additional login or anything). If possible I'll also migrate all the topics and replies in this forum.

For those with technical hats (or used to other fora), I'm looking at trying to run phpbb (tricky for me as I haven't looked at PHP code in about 10 years). If there are any forum systems you're used to and like please let me know.
Ta,

Yes, the forum always seems to play up for me about one in three attempts to get on it.
Watch for all the naysayers moaning about how they liked this "old" site better (remember the last time?)Wink

version 8 is the current software I'm using - the old forum I wrote myself, this software I moved the site to when it was at version 7 but it costs hard cash to remove adverts (and technically I should upgrade it to version 9 now).
Anyway I've sort of given up on phpbb for the time being, it's very good but I'd have to rework too many parts of the site to incorporate it (and customising would probably take a while too). I've got another forum app I'm looking at, just not sure if it has all the features you guys would want Wink

This is the only feature I need. Mind you I'd rather the money slot was removed and I just need to press the button to dispense.

Whaddya mean "no"?

Ah, I remember the days back at college spending some time filling the snack machine with lots of lovely choccie - and no I didn't 'accidentally' reprogramme the prices to 2p Tongue

We had a vending machine at college that gave you free Pineapple and Grapefruit Tango if you piad with a pound coin. Strange but true!
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?
