Basil accused of racism
« on: March 16, 2008, 09:42:46 pm »

Basil Brush has become embroiled in a racism row over a scene featuring a gypsy woman selling heather and wooden pegs.

Police are investigating after a traveller reported an episode of the Basil Brush Show, broadcast on digital channel CBBC.

It showed a gypsy character trying to flog items to the children's puppet - best known for his "Boom Boom" catchphrase.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire police said: "We can confirm we have received a complaint about a TV show featuring Basil Brush from a member of the public in February.

"The complaint was logged as an incident of a racist nature."

i'm so sick of all this petty political correctness sh*t! please, enough already! if it was genuinely offensive then more than one solitary moron would have reported it.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I think the complainer was pointing out an error in accuracy. The scene depicted was not accurate because whilst the gypsy woman was keeping Basil talking on the front doorstep, there was no one trying to nip in the back and nick his jewellery.
Old but spicey!

Surely 'gypsy' is a lifestyle choice, not a race?

It just goes to show how pathetic some people are. Does Sean in Corrie being camp count as a homophobic incident now? If a killer in crime drama is black, is that racism?

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

Today I was passing a card shop with golliwogs in the window and there were 2 women having a conversation about how they were racist and the shopkeeper should be shot.

I tried watching Basil Brush show this week but turned off after 10 minutes.  Utter garbage.  Don't let your kids watch this tripe.

It's not the same since he changed hands. LOL
I'm not sure the producers are guilty of racism, it seem more like a case of criminal sterotyping to me. But even so you cannot be shot for that.

If you could then every programme with a womanising drunken Irishman in it would have to be cancelled and then what would ITV have left for their schedule???

This is a familiar story... I believe that Sweep got Sue pregnant and refused to marry her, so he and Sooty fought a duel.
Sweep was slain and Sooty married Sue, and agreed to raise the child as his own. They live in a small flat in Filey.
A comeback show was discussed, but it was decided that without Sweep it wasn't a good plan, and so he works for the post office now, and she has a part time job at Morrisons on the tills and fresh meat produce counter.

At least that's what I heard, but it could just be vicious gossip. Wink

If anyone's heard anything different........
