Earthquake
« on: February 27, 2008, 06:58:34 am »
We felt the earthquake strongly here in Peterborough as it's not very far from Market Rasen.  It was very strong, the whole house shook from the bowels of the earth.  It is the second strong earthquake we have experienced in Peterborough since we moved here 19 years ago. I was shaking like a leaf afterwards - but last time it did not bother me so much.  When it was going on I was thinking 'how long will it last?'

In Nottingham it was a distant rumble at first, but then got louder until the whole bedroom was shaking and finished with a bang like a thunder clap!  In all lasted for about 5-6 seconds.

Very alarming.

I felt it, but wasn't 100% sure it was an earthquake as the vibrations seemed to be coming from above me. I felt the 2002 much more strongly, as I was only about 15 miles from the epicentre.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

I didn't hear or feel anything.
It was raining here.

My flat shook and I thought it was the wind.

It really wasn't that exciting. To be honest I thought it was someone trying to break in downstairs.

It was quite terrifying here! I was awake at the time and it started with a loud rumble. Then you could actually feel the bowels of the earth moving violently. The house seemed to be jumping up and down and you could hear this rumbling below ground. It lasted about ten seconds then you could just hear a rumble in the distance. oldspice2008-02-29 20:11:16

Yes, anyone within 100 miles of the epicentre had quite a violent effect.  There was nothing felt in Scotland or the far south west of England.  Lou, you were right near the edge of the intensity zone, so it wouldn't be so dramatic for you.

That reminds me of the woman who went into a shop during the January sales rush for a straw hat and she got felt.
