no more Smarties tubes
« on: February 18, 2005, 10:37:33 am »
I just heard that Nestle are scrapping Smarties tubes. Personally I liked the tubes ... I remember as a kid looking under the lid to see what letter was printed on there. As a company I didn't like Nestle much anyway, and now they have slipped even further in my estimation. How will Smarties be packaged now?

They are putting then in little boxes like they have with the fruity smarties and joosters.

I used to love having smarties and looking to see what letter I had! Would always prey for a Z.

Here you can see the new packaging:

It sounds like the new cardboard packets will eliminate the need for the plastic lid. But I doubt it will be possible to reseal the new style tube.

And of course you won't be able to fire the plastic lid across the room anymore

 I love doing that!

The boxes can be resealed. It might have a flip lid like on the fruity smarties.

What about all those kid's arts and crafts project and Blue Peter 'makes' that say 'you'll need an empty Smartie tube...'?

It's been a long time since I've had Smarties actually. It was only when I looked at the link about the new packaging that I realised the tubes weren't brown anymore!

When I was at school back in the dark ages, we used to collect the caps and try to spell out our boyfriends' names.  It was very annoying when you changed boyfriend just as you'd almost completed it!  We also used to flick the caps across the classroom when the teacher was facing the other way.

Good idea.  Then in a few years you can sell it on ebay and make a fortune!  Now would it be worth more if it was still full of Smarties I wonder?

I have loads of old chocolate upstairs, things like spice girls bars etc, I hope that one day my nephews and neices will appreciate a bit of pop art history.

I've just read in the paper that the tube is to be replaced with a 'long hexagonal pack with a cardboard flip-top lid.'  This is to 'ensure the brand remains fresh and interesting'

Humph!

Smartie tubes are even older than I am!   I can remember the anticipation of prising off a Smartie lid - will it be a "p" or a prized "Z"?

Nestle is a gob-sh*tting parasite company. Whatever next??
