idea to make the rating system better

People who rate lots of different chocolate bars should have a higher weighting in the ratings, as they will have experienced more chocolate and be a better judge.

Also people who haven't been active on the site for a while should have their weighting drop gradually.

Why should one member's vote be any more important than another? Someone who has just joined this site before could be a total chocoholic who has tried every bar going, whereas someone who's only tried 20% of the bars listed but has done lots of voting would be considered a 'better judge'.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

Well it would encourage people to stick around.

Also, I think the ranking system doesnt help this site, I've rated 16% of the chocolate bars on the site and none of my squares are filled in. It needs to be less linear imo. eg after 5% you get one square, 10% 2 squares, 20% 3 squares, 40% 4 squares and 80% 5 squares.

At the moment I expect most people come here, rate a few, see no changes, get a bit bored and bugger off never to return.

Personally, I don't go on a site to get ratings but to exchange my views and ideas. I haven't had time to vote on any bars recently but haven't lost any squares.

We are not very competitive on this site - although people do get excitied when they get to a certain number of posts and qualify for more stars. We just enjoy each other's company and although we always warmly welcome new members, if they drift away it's often because they contribute to losts of other sites and tend to drift around the net anyway.

Some of us die-hards have been here for years!
Old but spicey!
