Reward Chocolates

Can anyone help? I remember a TV ad for a box of chocolates back in the 60's where the box was opened to reveal a diamond necklace or earrings in one of the spaces reserved for a chocolate. As a young kid I remember pestering my parents to buy them believing they contained jewels!! I think they were called "Reward" or "Rewards" but can't find anything about them anywhere. Anyone else remember these and which company made them?

Yes, I remember Reward chocolates. They came in a white box  with brown or light brown writing.  I am trying to remember who made them and think it was either Cadbury or Rowntrees.  I don't think they have been around for decades. It's interesting that you remember them because I have enquired about them on here before and I think I'm the only one old enough to recall them!

Thanks for replying - I only found one other throw away reference to "Reward milk chocolates" on the Net. The ads featured a glamourous women opening the box to find some diamond earrings I think. I'd love to know who made them as it's been nagging at me for a while. at least I know now that they weren't a figment of an ageing imagination like so many other aspects of a sixties childhood!!!

I remember Reward chocolates, I got a box for my birthday when I was about 8 or 9, I was well chuffed. Can't remember who made them but I have some old magazines from the 50's, 60's and 70's, I will have a look and see if theres an advert for them.

REWARD chocholates were made here in NORWICH at the former MACKINTOSH FACTORY eventually taken over by the NESTLES and closed. the production line was next door to the WEEKEND line and consisted of about 60 woman sat on chairs with trays of chocholates beside them , all filled by hand. a very friendly place to work and now sadly demolished. Just for the record a large part of the factory was devoted to production of YORKIE . The busiest area was ROLO, incidently they also made a dark chocholate ROLO only sold for the GERMAN market. other sections of the factory were for the manufacture of GOLDEN CUP, CARAMAC and MUCHIES, MINTOLA and TURKISH DELIGHT . the factory also made EASTER EGGS and about 3 or 4 chocholates for ROWNTREE of YORK which ended up in there BLACK MAGIC BOX.

Sounds a wonderful place tyo work. How sad that it has all gone. however, you have your memories. My husband and i met at work over thirty years ago. The company we worked for is now a distant memory but we enjoy remembering those good old days with some former colleagues.

I think he/she must be the TOWN CRYER for NORWICH.
Do you think my guess is in with a SHOUT?

Hug  Pity you spelled CRYER wrong though!  Actually I'll let you off, it can be CRIER or CRYER - doesn't matter which, as long as you SHOUT it!goldencup2008-03-17 08:10:11
