I like to see people wearing a poppy.

We have had poppies 'for sale' (OK, I know you don't really buy them) at work for the past week.  I've lost count of the number of times I've seen people put 1p in the container.  I saw one man put in 5p and take four poppies, one for each of the family.

I can't believe some people. Even at school we used to put 20p in the tin and that was a) 20 years ago and b) when I was about eight and 20p was a lot to me!
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

One thing that blessed me this week was that, as part of their literacy programme, our most disaffected kids looked at the origins of poppy wearing and did some reading and research about the various wars that have blighted the 20th century and the early part of this century. They looked at poetry, diary entries from soldiers and a story about a boy soldier who died in WW1. They also wrote personal thoughts and verses. Without exception, those kids, who normally cause havoc and chaos in the classroom, paid rapt attention to all the activities and showed a deep respect for the sacrifices made by those affected by war.  i was truly blessed and very proud of them.
Old but spicey!
