Rumba Bar ?
« on: August 18, 2007, 10:33:54 pm »

Does anyone remember a rum flavoured nougatine bar covered in milk chocolate? I think it was called a rumba but can't remember who made it.

If memory serves correctly this would be made about 1970 or thereabouts.

Yes you're right - here's a quote from "A quarter of" website.

RUMBA

This was a chocolate covered bar of soft nougat with a rum flavour.

It was made by Cadburys. If my memory serves me right, it was actually two, quite short fingers of fudgey rum flavoured nougat joined in the middle.

Thank goodness somebody else remembers it as well!!!! I have had a few blank looks when i've mentioned it before.

It was my favourite chocolate bar of the time satisfying my life long fondness for rum flavouring.  I remember it as being a single bar somewhere between the size of a Milkyway and a Mars bar and wrapped in  foil covered paper. Mind you sometime the memory plays tricks!

Talking of rum flavouring what about a campaign to bring back Old Jamaica probably the best chocolate bar ever.

I'm not overly keen on rum tasting chocolate.

Nor me, I bought some by mistake in Prague a couple of weeks ago and had to throw it away.

I am probably wrong about it being a twin bar. It's just a vague memory. It's so long ago.

Its just as well we don't all like the same tastes or flavours what a dull world that would be.

My preference is for full flavours combined with chocolate e.g. rum or ginger. I prefer plain chocolate to milk chocolate and find white chocolate too sweet and sickly for my palate. It is all down to personal preference and we are fortunate that with such a diversity of chocolate products available there is sure to be something to suit almost everyone.

I don't much like white chocolate for the same reason.

I love chocolate with ginger - I'd especially like  to see a ginger fondant bar.  Waitrose do a nice ginger truffle bar.

I miss Amazin bars and mint cracknell. I miss the days when there was more choice across chocolate bars and fillings in boxed chocolates. I'm bored with caramels, bicuit/wafer combinations and truffles and pralines.

I made the same mistake when I was in Prague.  Went to Tescos and bought what I thought was some kind of tropical coconut type bar only to discover it was rum flavoured...and not a particularly nice rum flavour at that!

Couldn't agree more old spice. Especially on the ginger fondant bar.

This part appears to be missing from the above on screen.

That must have been the exact same bar - I was expecting coconut too!

If memory serves, i think it was in a blue wrapper and was a very thick chunky bar which was light brown in the middle and had a coconut ice kind of texture with a really strong and not particularly sweet rum taste...yuk! Dead
