The SImpsons: Movie
« on: July 27, 2007, 01:36:16 am »
well, i was in line for the first showing on wednesday. i'd waited 20 years for this one... and it didn't really disappoint. it was very sharp and funny as ever. it had an 'older episode' feel to it, and it reminded me how much better the show was a few years ago than it is today.

the thing is, i'm not quite sure it really needed to be on the big screen. i think i would have enjoyed it more if it went straight to dvd. the big-screen experience didn't quite work for me.

anyone else seen it?

Not yet, but I'm planning to. It's got good reviews, not that I ever take much notice - if I want to see something, I go and see it. I'm just glad they didn't make a live action version as was threatened in the nineties.

Interesting point about the big screen. I suppose the obvious answer is that Fox will get revenue for ticket sales AND DVD sales if it's released in the cinema first.

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

The review I read was very disappointing - and it made the same comment about the 'big screen' thing not really working.  I think I'll wait for the DVD.

At the Simposons movie website there is a feature where you can create a Simpsons character of yourself. It's kinda like Mr Potato Head ... choose a mouth, choose eyes etc. Anyway this is what my componant parts came out as, although I'm not sure it looks anything like me:

edit: cannot post the picture due to an internal server error :(

I have just seen the film and thought it funny as ever. I know what you mean WJP about big screen, but have you seen this?!

Jeez, just how low can the film industry sink?

I know I should make my own mind up, but I'm very impressionable and was put off by this review: http://biffovision.blogspot.com/ -- see the entry for Thursday July 26th "you can almost hear the air whistling between the gags"

Think I'll wait for the DVD too.

My dad once bought a Willie Nelson album because it got great reviews. Our ears have yet to recover from the trauma of it.

I saw The Simpsons movie last week and I thought it was great.  I was really sceptical before hand but I thought it really worked...and I'm a very harsh critic.

Were you horrified by the full frontal nudity?

Absolutely disgusted.  I had to cover mother's eyes...
