Nursery Rhymes
« on: July 10, 2007, 02:15:25 pm »

A recent survey found that more than a quarter of parents couldn't remember a single nursery rhyme.  Singing to children has been proven to help them learn but only 37 per cent of parents apparently ever do this and then it's mostly pop songs.

I can't believe the majority of parents couldn't come up with Baa Baa Black Sheep or Jack and Jill or something.  And surely less traditional stuff like "The Wheels on the Bus" counts?

I never stopped singing songs to my kids when they were small. We shared hundreds of nusery rhymes and silly little songs, some of which I made up, including the following:

A camel came to breakfast

He didn't like his porridge

We gave him marmalade on toast

And sent him home to Norwich!
Old but spicey!

Hey diddle diddle,
the cat did a piddle
the cow crapped over the moon
the little dog laughed to see such fun
and the dish got pregnant by the spoon.paulham2007-07-10 18:39:01

My mum and grandparents sang me nursery rhymes, and I still remember them.
I would sing them to my kids and hopefully after a while sing them with my kids.

It would be great to pass that down. Like a gift from my grandparents to them.

Was delighted to see spanish kids last night holding hands and singing Ring a ring a rosey, couldn't understand the song but the tune was the same and they all fell down at the end.
