Red pillar box cheers up troops.
« on: July 08, 2007, 02:42:39 pm »
British troops in Afghanistan have got a reminder of home with the delivery of the country's first red post box.

The Royal Mail pillar box has been set up at a base near the town of Gereshk, 75 miles northwest of Kandahar, in the southern Helmand province.

The initiative was organised by Staff Sgt David Capper following requests from soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

The Army says the arrival of the post box has been welcomed by the troops and provided a boost to morale.

They'd be about as much use as the one I've got at the moment.

My postie Vince is in Florida at the moment and I have some miserable dog hating man who insists on giving me three of every free leaflet he is delivering.

Bloody hell, you lot have traditional posties with names you can pronounce!  We rarely see the same postman twice, he can arrive at anytime between 7am and 3pm and his name is uaually Vladimir or Dimitri or Slow**kovski or something similar.

LOL  Rest assured Oldspice that Gorgeous Gordon is about the only English speaking postie in my area and that's why he's so popular.  Although he's only about 30 he's a traditional postman in that he actually knows everyone's names and will deliver stuff to the right house even if the address is not absolutely correct!  Please don't get me on this subject - I am seriously thinking about taking a course in Polish and/or whatever they speak in Afghanistan as it's becoming more and more difficult to communicate with our customers at work.
