A salesman who tried to sell one of his kidneys in an internet chatroom to pay off gambling debts has walked free from court.

Do you think we should be allowed to sell our kidneys?

It's a definite no from me. Vulnerable people in very poor countries could be forced into it - and they certainly wouldn't be the ones seeing most of the money!

you can willingly 'donate' a kidney, should the oppertunity arise... so why shouldn't you be able to sell one? they're your property, after all.

Suppose your kidney is part of you so why not? People will expolit other people for something else.

Yes, of course people will always find ways to exploit people - but surely it's going to happen a lot more often if we make it legal!

I wouldn't do it myself but if someone was selling their kidney then I don't think I would have a problem with it.

I'm glad the man in the case Lou mentions didn't get into trouble - he must have been pretty desperate to try that - but it should remain illegal.

Seriously. My problem with the idea of flogging off spare organs is what happens if you have an accident and then need a new one yourself?

How do you know if it really is spare? You might need it yourself some day!
