Yes, it's official. Ronnie Corbet won the Eurovision song contest!

I knew she reminded me of someone! LOL

I thought we should have won. Our entry was great fun, and compared to some of the dross on show it was top quality!

The voting system needs a radical overhaul. Semi-finalists who don't qualify for the final should not be allowed to vote in it, and 'one member one vote' also needs to be scrapped. Why should the vote of Monaco, home to the Grimaldis and about six other people, count for the same as the vote of Germany, France and the UK with populations of 60 million plus?

I'm sorry I missed it and I hadn't heard our entry until I was in Asda this morning.  It didn't sound too bad to me.  The presenter was saying that the whole show was a travesty.

The best bit was one of the 'life in Finland' intros - which featured Santa playing chess with a Moomin. Seriously.

She was irritating and silly as was most of the show and its contestants. I do hope it is scrapped before next year.

If we are honest, do you think we have been a bit greedy for  the last 54 years, thinking that Europoean culture can be represented and measured by what is tasteful to western Europe?

I mean, now that the eastern European states have gained indepedence, are asserting themselves and having a bit of clout - we don't like it? Or is it that we think Eurovision should be as it has always been - chatchy, cosy, cheesy songs like Puppet On a String and, dare I say, last night's UK offering. Or am I being too intense again?

Ah, I thought it was Jimmy Krankie.

I quite liked the French and Swedish entries ... pretty much all the songs I liked ended up in the bottom half of the table LOL

The Eurovision Song Contest voting system needs to be changed because it is "harmful to the relationship between the peoples of Europe", an MP has said.

Countries voted for their neighbours rather than the best songs, Liberal Democrat MP Richard Younger-Ross said.

And the BBC should insist on voting changes or withdraw from the contest altogether, he added.

Serbia won Saturday's contest, while the UK was second from bottom, only receiving votes from Ireland and Malta.

Mr Younger-Ross said the present structure was a "joke", adding that votes were based "largely on narrow nationalistic grounds".

The song I liked best was voted out during the Semi-finals, for being unsuitable.
Apparently the christian church didn't like it, and various Catholic groups protested strongly to it.

I think it's pretty good, and a sight better than some of the songs that made it, but politics and religion won again!

And here was I thinking it was the Eurovision SONG contest.

And the song that had religious persons in a flap?

It was the Swiss entry called "Vampire's are Alive" by DJ Bobo.

But you can understand it really can't you? I mean, I am going to be convinced that Vampire's really are alive by a cheesy Eurovision pop song. So it must be banned before me and others like me are completely brainwashed!

Come on people.....Get a grip!

Maybe those countries voted for each other because, being similar in lots of ways, they actually LIKED each other's songs. Could it be cultural preferences being expressed?

Just a thought.
