Angry Ukrainian nationalists have held protests against the selection of a controversial drag queen to represent Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The demonstrations are part of a campaign to pressure the former Soviet republic to withdraw from the contest.

Verka Serdyuchka, who pokes fun at middle-aged women, is loved by many people and is a cult icon in Ukraine.

Maybe some countries realise they just won't win so think they will have more of a a fun entrant.

It's enough to make you wish Cliff Richard would have another go.

Johnny Logan. He won in 1981 and 1987, and wrote the winner in 1992.

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

That's him.

Thankyou smurfboy.

Didn't know about him writing the winner in '92. Just read in a forum about this years entrant and some of the past winners, but couldn't remember his name.

i was wondering about the miming - but i thought it was illegal in the contest?

i was very disapponted we didn't get 'no points' - we truly deserved it this year.

and the winner? absolute rubbish!

(but terry wogan? what a star!)

Yes, it's official. Ronnie Corbet won the Eurovision song contest!

The song I liked the best was Hungary's entry, followed by Lithunania. Our efforts were laughable but it's frightening that we got the same number of votes as the lunatic french entry which was a truly tragic performance.

I quite liked the Irish entry musically but the singing was awful.

The voting was, of course, as political as ever, indicated by Malta giving us an undeserved 12 points and Norway and Sweden giving each  other full points, not to mention all the Baltic states voting for each other regardless of the quality of the songs.

All-in-all, a glorious olio of Europoean chic eccentricity and lunacy.

Malta also votes for us because we helped them during the war and decorated them for their bravery.

All-in-all, although the winner was no glamour puss, the song was Ok. Certainly better than many other offerings.
