Who ate fish today and did you cook it yourself or go to the fish and chip shop?  I saw atleast 50 people queueing at our local chippie.

I am having smoked Haddock pie with vegetables and mashed potatoes, and B/F is cooking.

He's a great cook too so it should be YUM!!  Big%20smile

You didn't say Loulou, did you see these people because they were in front of you in the queue or were you just passing on your way home from the fish monger? Wink

I never quite understood the significance of this. I don't eat fish anyway, but I don't see the point in following this ritual unless you are religious.

I must admit I hadn't given it a thought. I am not religious and the fish thing was just a coincidence.

Loulou asked who was eating fish today, and I am, so I replied.

Is it a religious reason people eat fish on Friday's then? I didn't know that. I thought it was because that was when the fishing boats came back in and there was loads of fish to be had.  Confused   Embarrassed

Thanks Smurfboy. Smile

Just as a matter of interest does anyone know why religious people eat fish on Friday's?

There now see I thought Easter was when christians celebrated the fact that Jesus wasn't dead but had risen again.
There's a word for that but I can't remember what it is!!!!Unhappy

Resurrection.

You are half right Scarlet - Good Firday marks the crucifixion, Easter Sunday is when the resurrection supposedly occured.

We quite often have fish and chips on Fridays, just because everybody's always in a hurry.  Didn't today though - Roast Lamb.

Ahhh that makes sense. Now I get why they have to have so many days to celebrate it.

Thanks Smurfboy. Smile

Love the idea of him going down to Devon on the Monday 623. LOL

If he was going to do that nowadays though he'd have to set off really early. Smile

Jesus was the Son of God.  We always had fish every Friday when I was a child and would NEVER have eaten meat on Good Friday. My parents were Christians and we had to go to church on Good Friday. After they died I carried on that tradition until I started to work full time and didn't get Good Friday off.  I did not have fish yesterday - we used up some ready meals we had sitting around.

I like Easter better than Christmas as I think it is a very moving and spiritual festival.
Old but spicey!
