Isn't there any UK wrestling on the TV anymore?
My mum used to go watch the UK wrestling in various places around the coast. She took me a few times but I was very young and don't remember much about it except there was always plenty of orange pop and chocolate biccies and if I was still awake fish and chips on the way home.Smile

there is on channel 427 (twc-fight). it's mainly the old embarrassing stuff, but occasionally you get some good stuff. all the tacky american stuff is on sky sports and bravo.

There used to be wrestling at my local Town Hall when I was a child. It was televised. That was when Mick McManus was the main man.  My mother was horrified at the number of women  who went to watch it. To her it was lowest form of entertainment and I bet she was glad we had no TV.

I think the old fashioned Britissh wrestling is a good bit of theatre but the American stuff is just too over-the-top.

Old but spicey!

I remember Mick McManus - my Dad used to be glued to it at weekends.  There was also a guy called Ricky Starre who used to be a ballet dancer and Les Kennett or Kellett? (sp?) who were both very entertaining.

Apparently my great-grandmother used to love it - I'm with Spicy's mother on this one though!

My mum loved Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, and I think his name was Alan Kirby. Because she used to go to the matches with the time keeper, (he was an old family friend) she got to go back stage and meet them afterwards.
She has a book with lots of their autographs in it somewhere in her loft.

Somehow the American stuff just isn't the same.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it this year wjp. Smile

He was very funny but Ricky Starre was even funnier.  He used to put a lot of ballet moves into his wrestling and spent all the time when his opponents were down doing pirouettes around the ring!

there were a few good moments... like the genuine, UNSCRIPTED streaker in the main event. always gains points in my book!

it was a guy. and the cameras promptly stayed away from him. he had time to hurdle the safety barrier and jump in the ring, THEN he started to get naked... but the referee tackled him before he could manage it properly. still, points for effort!
