I think they can tell from the size of egg in relation to the age of the bird it came from but ive seen lights being used to see the yolk of eggs while still in shells. I guess theres so many chickens in poultry farms that twins dont seem so rare. I think ive only seen it once or twice in my life time though
tesco do boxes of all double yolk eggs. Younger birds are more likely to produce eggs with double yolks, i think they pass them in front of a strong light to show how many yolks there are ( the eggs not the birds ). Just dragged that from the depths of my brain having seen something about egg farming on tv years ago so i hope im remembering right
