Chocolate Economics
« on: March 09, 2007, 02:34:57 pm »
Hi All,

I have been looking for this information for ages now - just found this website and thought some of you fine people might have some leads...

I am looking for some information on the size (and possibly price) of a standard chocolate bar over time, say a Mars for example.

How much did a Mars weigh in 1970/75/80/85 etc up to today?

Anyone know where I might find this?

They just seemed so much bigger when I was a kid!

According to Wikipedia, the changing price of a Mars bar over the past fifty years has been roughly in line with inflation.

I do know that in the mid '80s a Mars was 68g.

When you look back doesn't all chocolate seem to have been bigger when you were small?

I just mean that your hands are smaller so the bars feel bigger to hold and your mouth is smaller so there feels to be lots more to chew.

Probably the only place to get that kind of info is the makers of mars bars. But it's probably one of those "If I tell you I'll have to kill you" type of secrets.

I am totally sure that Creme Eggs at least are  smaller than they used to be.

Definitely.  And Topics and Curly Wurlies.  But a lot of crisp packets are bigger than they used to be!

Cadbury confirm on their website that Creme Eggs haven't got any smaller:

I agree with Oldspice.  Cadbury's don't even know about half the products they used to make.

Well if you mean bars that lasted a few months and died out 20 years ago, how much info do you really expect them to have? And do I have to remind people that several people on this forum were convinced Cadbury made Cabana? Wink

No, just a regular one.
The king size was probably more like 100g.
