The Swiss food company Jacobs Suchard has won a takeover battle with its Swiss rival, Nestle S.A., for control of Belgium's leading chocolate maker, Cote d'Or. The Belgian company's board announced after a long meeting Thursday that it had accepted a takeover bid from Jacobs Suchard in preference to a later offer from Nestle. The Suchard offer values Cote d'Or at about $124 million, well above the $84 million that the public stock price implies. Only about 15 percent of the company's stock is publicly held, with much of the rest controlled by two families that run the company
